JANICA KOSTELIC WINS, JULIA MANCUSO LEADS U.S. WITH 14TH IN GS
Kristina Koznick 16th as World Cup returns to Czech Republic
SPINDLERUV MLYN, Czech Republic (Dec. 21) - Janica Kostelic of Croatia charged through her second run Wednesday to overtake Austrian Nicole Hosp for a giant slalom win as the World Cup made its first stop in the Czech Republic. Julia Mancuso (Olympic Valley, CA) led U.S. women, finishing 14th with Kristina Koznick (Eagan, MN) 16th in soft snow conditions.
OLN will broadcast coverage of World Cup racing Sunday at 5 p.m. ET as its ongoing 10 Weeks to Torino series leads to the Olympics.
Kostelic, who squandered a one-second lead Dec. 11 in a slalom at the Sirius Satellite Radio Aspen Winternational in Colorado, had a two-run time of 2:21.30 for her first win of the season. The 2002 Olympic and ’03 Worlds gold medalist in GS, had never won a World Cup GS until Wednesday.
