Treble Cone - NZ
The weather has been up and down all week, with sun, sleet and snow all making an appearance on the mountain. However, we received 10-15cm of the fluffy stuff in the last 48 hours, so things continue to look superb up here.
We had a busy weekend just gone, with lots of downhill racing and the arrival of the Austrian Men’s National Ski Team. Also in the past week, our Masters ski racers were doing us proud at Mt Hutt and some of our fantastic winter clinics started up.
This week, we’ve got some more exciting events taking place, along with some live entertainment on the sun deck, so read on to find out what’s happening…

The Masters Programme at the Treble Cone Race Academy is renowned for its extremely high quality of coaching and competitive participation from dedicated skiers. The Masters, who come from all walks of life, share a common goal – to meet, ski and compete at the highest level with other passionate skiers.
And this year’s Masters are already starting to show the results of their hard work.
Last week saw the Treble Cone Masters group competing in the Super G event at Mt Hutt ski area in Canterbury on Friday and Saturday.
From over 110 competitors, the seven Treble Cone participants took away an impressive amount of medals, including:
• Nev Teat’s 1st place in Slalom;
• Walter Unterberger’s 1st place in the Super G and also in the Slalom.
• Deanie Johnston, meanwhile, took 1st place in the women’s Slalom event, and had the 2nd fastest time in the whole competition.

Freestyle World Cup aerials opener in Australia cancelled
Bree Munro (AUS)
The opening event of the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup – ladies’ and men’s aerials competitions that were scheduled for September 2nd-3rd at Mount Buller (AUS) – has been cancelled because of poor snow coverage.
"Cancellation is due to snow pack being less than what is required to build a world-class World Cup jump site," Buller Ski Lifts, the event organizer, announced on Monday. Mt Buller has a long history hosting the opening two World Cup Aerial events of the season for the past nine years and the Freestyle World Cup at Mt Buller is the longest running FIS World Cup in the Southern hemisphere. “We are obviously disappointed but sometimes it just happens that the environmental conditions do not cooperate with all our best plans. Warm temperatures and dry conditions are not good circumstances to make snow or hold ski competitions. We will try our best to replace these aerials competitions within the 2006-07 Freestyle World Cup schedule,” noted Joe Fitzgerald, FIS Freestyle Skiing Coordinator.
2007 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships are on site to collect ideas and learn from the practice of event organization. On 10th August, the Gothenburg organizers will host a seminar to discuss their experiences with the event and its planning. The responsible people from Åre 2007 will be taking advantage of this unique opportunity to meet their counterparts within the organization of the Athletics Championships.
