Sun Peaks Local Named to Canadian Alpine Ski Team Development Groupv
Elli Terwiel from the Sun Peaks Alpine Club has been selected to be a part of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team Development Group for the second year in a row. Terwiel is one of fifteen high potential athletes that will be training with the Development Group after the announcement from Alpine Canada Alpin earlier this week.
“Making this team confirms that I am going in the right direction towards achieving my goals. It makes going to the 2010 Olympics a realistic goal—if I work extremely hard!” says Terwiel, who hopes to be racing in Europe most of next season.
Terwiel had a very successful 2007–2008 season, taking home the gold at the Pontiac GMC Cup competition at Sun Peaks Resort in February, followed by another gold medal performance at a Pontiac GMC Cup event in Ontario in March.
Sun Peaks Resort Corporation is proud to be a corporate sponsor for Terwiel. “It’s an honour to be able to support future Olympians like Elli and we are thrilled she has been named to the Canadian Alpine Ski Team Development Group again,” commented Anne Haight, Director of Marketing and Sales. “With the right encouragement these athletes can continue to grow and develop and work towards their dreams.”
Sun Peaks Resort continues to support the development of alpine sports in Canada and is pleased to host races such as the Pontiac GMC Cup.
The Canadian Alpine Ski Team Development Group is made up of six men and nine women, including several Coupe Pontiac GMC Cup champions. Summer training for the team includes intensive dryland training and many on-hill camps with the team.
