SAN FRANCISCO ICER is thrilled to announce the next evolution of Esurance ICER AIR,
October 18, 2008
It’s finally here. In just two short months, the week long construction of an action sports, music and lifestyle city will rise up and take shape on the famed San Francisco waterfront. The event has once again evolved and will display another year of innovation, big thinking, and over-the-top action and sport. Please check out the details at www.icerair.com
ICER AIR gained notoriety in 2005 by laying down 16,000 cubic feet of
snow on one of San Francisco’s steepest streets and hosting a big air ski and snowboard competition. A year later,
Esurance ICER AIR became the first and only stadium event in the United States. Esurance
ICER AIR will feature a 2-day multi-sport event. This year’s event will take place at
renowned AT&T Park, a major San Francisco landmark and home to the San Francisco Giants.
“Esurance ICER AIR is a constantly-evolving event. Each
year we try to raise the bar, to do something a bit bigger and
a bit crazier than we have in the past,” said Glen Griffin,
ICER founder and president. “Our main mission will
always be to bring the mountains to the city, showcasing
some of the most amazing athletes in the world in an urban
setting.”
Esurance ICER AIR will feature a big air ski and
snowboard competition, freestyle motocross, skate and
BMX vert and street courses, wakeboarding, 60 exhibitors,
2 music stages, and a beer garden. Olympic and X Games
athletes will share the spotlight with a surprise headliner
band. ICER AIR has firmly
established itself as a world-class event in the action sports industry.
“Esurance ICER AIR has become the official kick-off to winter as the best athletes in the world and all of the top
players in the industry converge in San Francisco for one of the coolest events ever,” stated event host and Olympic
Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley.

High Wycombe Snowdome Moves Forward
The High Wycombe Snowdome proposal on the site of the former artificial surface ski centre in southern England, largely destroyed by fire two years ago, have been given the green light by local councillors. Members of Wycombe District Council's Development Control Committee have voted unanimously to pass the application put forward by the owners of Wycombe Summit, Snowdome Ltd, who also own the existing indoor snow centre at Tamworth and the UK copyright for the name ‘snowdome.’
The company wants to build a new ice rink, reception area, function rooms and viewing gallery along with a newly enclosed 100 metre training and nursery slope. There will be a new four-story club house will also be constructed as part of the plans to replace the original building on the site.
Martin Smith, managing director of Staffordshire-based Snowdome, said he was delighted with the decision.
"It's been four years since we acquired the site, two years since the lodge burnt down and finally our application has progressed substantially," he said.
2008 Openings
North America’s long awaited first indoor snow centre at Meadowlands in New Jersey, Xanadu, is likely to be the most talked about new snow centre this year. The controversial and long delayed project currently aims to open ‘late’ in 2008, much of the indoor snow centre building is already complete.
Elsewhere another project delayed several years from the original date, the indoor snow centre at Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi, looks set to open in the first half of 2008.
Moscow’s first snow centre, like Xanadu already mostly complete and having already been supposed to open on various dates in 2007, should certainly open this year.
In the UK, the Bluestone Holiday Village in Wales, which plans to begin work on Phase 2 including an indoor snow centre next year, will open this summer. Work on two new snow centres at Hemel Hempstead and High Wycombe should start this year and a decision on whether the country’s largest and most southerly slope so far proposed, Snoasis, from a Public Enquiry launched a year ago, should be published any day.
