THE LEGACY OF AUSTRIAN SKI INSTRUCTION ON AMERICAN SKIING
Austrian ski instructors and racers developed some of America's
premiere ski resorts, coached some
of America's top skiers, taught many thousands of Americans to ski, and
in the process brought
Austrian Alpine culture to the Americas.

A new and fascinating film by Ian Scully will be screened for the first
time in Squaw Valley. The
film documents the entire history of the Austrian ski instructors
coming to America from the old
days to more modern times. It focuses on Hannes Schneider and his
disciples, and features
interviews with a number of these Austro-American ski pioneers
including Herbert Schneider, Otto
Lang, Bill Klein and Franz Gabi. It even includes Sandy Poulsen
talking about the old days in Sun
Valley when she first met her future husband, Wayne. Vintage film
footage and historic still
photographs accompany the narration of these celebrated personalities
in the history of skiing.
