got snow ?              News from The Steep, Deep & Extreme International Big Mountain Slopes

9.21.2006

Snow Alert Colorado, Summit County
First Fernie Canada, Then Snowbird last week now Summit County.
4+ inches on ridge lines at higher el.
Only enough to freeze the ground for future stoms,... But worth watching the weather patterns.  I have been at Tahoe on Sept 24 three years back, when it snowed. I believe that was the year the lifts opened on Halloween.

Don’t even think about storing away those skis and boards! With less than 3 weeks to go for the 2006 season, there’s still plenty of snow cover and awesome spring skiing and riding to be enjoyed across the mountain. We welcomed a top-up of fresh snow over the past couple of days, with 10-15cm falling since Saturday on the upper mountain.. Snow cover is presently 40cm at top of Volkswagen Express & 117cm at top of Saddle Quad chairlift. Click here to view our webcams.
The cool mornings are giving way to balmy September days. The snow is softening up nicely and providing superior spring conditions in the Southern Lakes region. Our slopes team are doing a fantastic job grooming trails in the Home and Saddle Basin – with Bullet, Main Street & Big Skite skiing and riding particularly well. The forecast is for some unsettled weather this week, which is due to bring even more fresh snow, but this will give way to finer days – perfect timing for the school holidays.
Some 40 firefighters are this week hoping to extinguish rumours that firefighters are all about water... Firefighters from across New Zealand are taking to the snow to compete in their National Ski Championships. Giant Slalom and Slalom events are scheduled for tomorrow (THURSDAY). Teams from different fire stations will race against each other in these events, with one station being found champ at the end of the day.
