Crystal Mountain will host the first ever IFSA Junior National Freeskiing Championship: Happening on March 7-9th. Top athletes from the Cowboy Up Junior Freeskiing Challenge event at Stevens Pass this weekend, February 2-3, 2008 and top finishers from the Crested Butte Junior Extreme Freeskiing Championships will be invited to the National Championship at Crystal Mountain in March. There will also be a qualifier day at the National Championships at Crystal and top finishers from other North American junior events will also be considered. Alyeska - Alaska
7th annual Winterfest
starting today January 31st! We will kick off the activities with the
return of the Chevrolet of South Anchorage Town League Race Series!
Winterfest is a four day celebration of winter and we have awesome skiing
and riding conditions on the slopes of Alyeska. This weekend is the Grand
Opening of our Easy Searcher Beacon Park and our new Terrain Park.
There will be a Name the Park contest held at the terrain park with the
new name being chosen the following week. The winner will win a tandem
paragliding flight with Midnight Sun Paragliding compliments of Coast
Magazine.
A new addition to Winterfest this year is Beacon Park Games from 1pm to
3pm on Super Bowl Sunday (located to the left of the Tram). All
guests are encouraged to get acquainted with our new Easy Search Beacon
Park. There will be instruction on the use of the new beacon park, beacon
practice and lessons provided by our Ski Patrol, beacon drill games
with prizes including an Avalung, probe and shovel. This is a free event.
Another new event is Musical Songs and Games with Wellstrung. This
event is open to children ages two to twelve. Donations of $10 go towards a
fund raiser with all proceeds going to Little Bears Playhouse. This
event will be held in the Daylodge from 6pm-10pm on Saturday Feb, 2nd.
There will be tons of fun things for the kids including games, live muic
by Wellstrung, arts and crafts supplied by Blaines Art Supply and free
pizza provided by Chair 5, Coast Pizza and Alyeska Resort.

Mammoth Mountain
Main Lodge was 28 degrees with moderate winds and it
was 17 degrees up at the summit. Winds will be gusty today and there
will be a high temp in the low 30's. There is a pretty good chance for
snow to start falling later this afternoon or evening.
The coverage
is excellent here at Mammoth Mountain with a base depth of 100-120
inches. 98 runs were groomed last night on about 963 acres of terrain.
All lifts are expected to run today with the exception of Chairs 20 and
26.
