La Plagne - France
Construction workers in La Plagne are currently toiling seven days a week in extreme weather conditions in order to complete the reconstruction work of the Bellecote cable car in time for its proposed re-opening in December.
Earlier this summer, fire completely destroyed the top station of the cable car despite the best efforts of the emergency services. Teams were brought in by land and by helicopter but the fire caused an estimated €3.5 - €4 million worth of damage. The arrival station was completely destroyed, the 6km long cable melted and snapped under the heat of the fire, one pylon was totally destroyed and two further pylons required replacement heads.

STEAMBOAT SNOW REPORT
Wake up, you'll want to go sking today." That's what I said to my
lady as I looked out the window and dialed the snow report. I listened
intently for a magical number....give me something over 10....anything
over 10 inches. The report was 14 inches at mid-mountain and 16 inches
of new snow at the summit in 24 hours! Are you kidding me? Isn't
Christmas still a month away?!
Today could be one of those all-time days, but I don't want to start
calling those yet, it's only the first week of the season. As we
stepped of the Gondola and walked out into the fresh, I couldn't
help but notice all the hoots and hollas...people were freaking out
and with good reason - it is awesome up there!
STEAMBOAT SNOW REPORT (5 am): 11/28/05
New Snow last 24 hrs at the summit: 18"
New Snow last 72 hrs at mid-mountain: 28"
Settled Snow Depth Base at the summit: 57"
Cumulative: 70"

The Priestess, who lights the flame, will pass it to the first torchbearer, and the flame will begin to make its way to Italy. On 8 December 2005, the relay will begin in the Piazza del Quirinale in Rome, where the President of the Republic of Italy, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, will light the torch for the first torchbearer on Italian soil, Stefano Baldini – gold medallist in the marathon at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. The Olympic flame will then arrive at the Opening Ceremony of the Turin Games on 10 February 2006.

SIA Prevents Trade Restrictions
The United States and China announced an agreement to limit imports of certain apparel products from China over the next three years. At SIA's request, the agreement explicitly excludes ski and snowboard pants from any import restrictions. It also places no limits on imports of ski jackets from China.
On November 1, 2005, the U.S. government unilaterally excluded ski/snowboard pants from the quota that has blocked Chinese imports of those categories since June. Ski/snowboard pants were the only products that were granted a 'carve-out' from the original 2005 quota since there is literally no domestic production of these particular products in the U.S. The agreement maintains this status for the years 2006 through 2008.
