L Ks sends in a note:
I went for just one run and ended up returning a couple of hours later. hmmm I wonder why? Well not what you think (given the fact we have now had 72 inches in 7 days), but I ended up helping a family down Apres Vous who were a little out of their depth. The funny thing was, despite their situation they seemed to be in very good humor, the children thought all the snow was incredible. Just a good reminder that not everybody is a powderhound, but everybody can enjoy the snow. If you are reading this you are probably the former, but its just a good reminder if you see someone struggling in all this snow, stop and check they are having fun.

Sugarloaf/USA marks the opening of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games with U.S. Ski Team Day Feb. 10
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine - To commemorate the Opening Ceremonies of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, Sugarloaf/USA will host U.S. Ski Team Day on Feb. 10, 2006. Sugarloaf is one of more than 65 alpine and cross country resorts across the nation that will donate $1 from every lift ticket sold on U.S. Ski Team Day to support the U.S. Ski Team initiatives.

“Sugarloaf will be well represented in Turino and this is one way we can offer our support for their current and future endeavors,” said Karen Greene, Sugarloaf’s brand manager. At least four athletes who trained at Sugarloaf and Carrabassett Valley Academy will represent the U.S. in the upcoming Olympic Winter Games. They are Bode Miller, who won the overall World Cup title in 2005, Kirsten Clark, who has quickly returned to prominence in this year’s FIS World Cup circuit, aerialist Emily Cook, and world champion snowboarder Seth Wescott.

All seven resorts in the American Skiing Company family of resorts will host U.S. Ski Team Days on Feb. 10. “This is a great opportunity for the American Skiing Company to help the U.S. Ski Team,” said Chip Carey, senior vice president of marketing for ASC. “We are all about skiing and snowboarding and want to help the team become the best in the world.”

U.S. Ski Team Presidents and former Olympian Bill Marolt is overwhelmed by the support of resorts across the country. “U.S. Ski Team Day will provide an outstanding opportunity for skiers in Maine and New England to celebrate our sport during the Olympic period, and to help the athletes of the U.S. Ski Team.”
