Sugar Bowl
Those of us who live in the Sierras know there's one thing we can usually count on... the Miracle of March. It has snowed 14 of the last 16 days with accumulations of 7-10 feet in our higher elevations!! The snow is AWESOME! Get on up here and get some.

It is another powder day here at the Bowl! We received 11-15 inches of fresh new snow so get up here and make some turns! Today adults, young adults, and seniors ski for $46. Children 6-12 are $15. Kids 5 and under ski for free! The National Weather Service Forecast is calling for heavy snow with accumulations of 4-8 inches at lake level and 7-14 inches above 7000 feet! Winds of 15-25 MPH with stronger gusts over the ridges.

Winter Still in Full Swing! With nearly FOUR FEET of fresh powder in 36 hours and over SEVEN feet of new snow in the past two weeks, March is nowhere near ready to go "out like a lamb." These storms continue to blanket Lake Tahoe's largest resort with top-to-bottom powder and the forecast calls for even more in the coming days, setting Heavenly up for an epic season of spring skiing and riding!

Gunbarrel 25
Join Glen Plake for his one-of-a-kind ski marathon designed for the "average joe." On April 1, 2006, we'll be doing laps on Heavenly's famous mogul run, Gunbarrel, all day long. Designed with a shotgun start, those who complete 25 laps in the allotted time will receive a finisher's pin. The top finishers in each category will receive a Gunbarrel 25 belt buckle and their names engraved on the perpetual trophy (designed by Glen himself). New this year, a 50-lap option will be available for all you hardcore mogul-maniacs! All participants will receive a t-shirt and post-race pasta feed. The 50 lap event starts at 8:30 a.m., the 25 lap event starts at 10:30 a.m., and both events end at 4:00 p.m. All on-line registrants are required to check-in day of event (to complete liability releases, receive event bibs, F&B vouchers, instructions, MM vouchers if needed.) On-site Check-in will be in the California Bar on the day of the event. GB 50 / 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. GB 25 / 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

In many valleys of the Dolomiti Superski area - Cortina d'Ampezzo (Falzarego, Tofana, Faloria, Cristallo), Kronplatz, Val Gardena/Alpe di Siusi, Val di Fassa, Arabba/Marmolada, Alta Pusteria (Monte Elmo, P.sso Monte Croce), Val di Fiemme/Obereggen, S. Martino di Castrozza (Tognola), Passo Rolle, Valle Isarco (Maranza, Valles) and Trevalli (Alpe Lusia-Bellamonte) - it will be possible to ski until the 17th/18th of April, the Sellaronda included. This year sees the return of the unforgettable Super Gigantissimo of the Marmolada combined with the Giant Slalom and the now established Gigantissimo Trevalli/Passo San Pellegrino. MARTIN POINT/TWO SENTINELS POWDER CAT TOURS!!! Saturday, January 21st, 10AM. While the rest of Kirkwood’s guests were busy picking their lines from the chair lift, nine lucky individuals were climbing aboard Kirkwood’s brand new 12 passenger snowcat, about to ski 18 inches of fresh cold powder on the inaugural cat skiing expedition to Martin Point and Two Sentinels. A coveted area beyond the Palisades at the northern edge of Kirkwood’s Special Use Permit (SUP), Martin Point is known for great snow long after the storm and offers 1,300 feet of consistent pitch, with great fall line runs through trees, open bowls and gullies filled deep with soft powder.
Previously accessible only by a long traverse and uphill hike, Expedition: Kirkwood now services Martin Point by snowcat, offering adventurous guests the quintessential powder skiing experience… deep powder runs, time to explore at your own pace and deluxe transportation that makes the trip to the top of the mountain as much fun as the ride down.

Bear Valley
Bear Valley Mountain Resort, the premier year-round family destination, today unveiled plans to add a new high-speed lift to the mountain. The addition of the quad lift, scheduled for operation in the 2006-07 ski season, comes as part of Bear Valley’s first phase facilities upgrade plans to enhance and expand the resort’s facilities and nearby lodging. The new high-speed lift, manufactured by Leitner Poma of America, will replace Bear Valley’s Hibernation Chair and represents one of the most advanced, environmentally-friendly high speed quad lifts in production. Providing faster loading for skiers, a smoother ride and power redundancy to ensure always-on operation, the lift will reach the summit in less than half the time of the Hibernation Chair.

Snow biking - action with a lot of fun
Down-hill skiing and snowboarding was never "your thing", but you still would like to have some fun in the snow? Try the new trend-sport "snow biking"! Fun, exercise and nature are guaranteed for young and old. Snow biking has little to do with bicycling as the name indicates. This bike has no pedals and wheels but runners. Sitting on the seat the pilot glides elegantly through the snow. Mini skiies will be attached to the feet of the snow biker in order to stabilize the bike - like training wheels on a child´s bicycle. Even though it looks quite spectacular - snow biking is not difficult to learn: just sit down, take a position down-hill, push and off you go! Furthermore snow biking is a safe sport with little possibility to get hurt. Lots of laughter and fun are guaranteed.
