It looks like last week's cold snap is on its way out, with temperatures on the mountain already in the teens and on the rise. I braved the cold yersterday, armed with my trusty wool neck gaiter, and cruised the smooth corduroy on Sleeping Indian, Upper Teewinot, and St. John's. -AC

NEWS from Patrick Thorne Snow365.com
Plans for the worlds largest snow centre, Snow Games in Belgium, are reported to be moving forward ten years after the project was first envisaged.
The 86 million Euro Snow Games would have a 100,000 square metre snow surface, nearly three times the largest indoor slope that currently exists, and slopes up to 800m long.
The centre aims to have two six-seater chairlift serving five runs, including a green, the 800m blue, two reds and a black run. Target visitor numbers are 650,000 in the first year rising to 1.19 million by the third year.
Snow Games aims to open in 2008 and will be Belgium’s fourth snowdome.

Western Australia is moving closer to opening its first ski slope, thanks to a proposal for a $50 million (Aus) indoor snow park at Perth.
Plans for the privately-financed project include two parallel runs about 350m long, with one at 15 degrees for beginners and the other at 30 degrees for advanced skiers.
There will also be a halfpipe and terrain park. The plans also include an outdoor ski jump training area. The precise location of the new facility has not yet been finalised.
Australian companies have been pioneers of indoor snowmaking since the 1980s when one of the first indoor snow slopes in the world opened in Adelaide. The country has also exported indoor snow technology for snowdomes, one off events and even for movie filming worldwide. The most technologically advanced indoor snow concept, the revolving indoor Ski Trac snowdome mooted for several locations worldwide, including as the base of the latest mega development in Dubai, is also Australian.
Australias conventional ski areas are also continuing to expand, but suffered a poor snow season in 2006 and there are projections that climate change will end all natural snowfall in the country by the middle of this century. A feasibility study had shown that Perth had 50,000 skiers who travelled to Eastern Australia or overseas regularly to ski.

Briton Engineering Developments have announced a third project on mainland Europe at Meseta Ski in Valladolid, Spain.
The company has been contracted to design and install a ski slope some 9500 square metres in size in association with their Spanish partners, ACTUR S.L. of Madrid.
Briton will be bringing its extensive design and build experience to bear and the new slope will sport the finest freestyle features the market demands, including several jumps, grind rails and an Olympic sized half pipe, similar to the project recently completed in Noeux Les Mines in northern France.
Spain is completely new territory for outdoor synthetic snowsports systems. Prior to the Madrid exhibition last November the Spanish had never seen a product such as Snowflex. The schedule set for construction is an aggressive one therefore skiers and 'boarders can look forward to the opening of the new slope within the next few months, some five months after starting on site.

Las Vegas Wet ,....
The latest news from the proposed $1.1 billion Las Vegas Wet snowdome and water park earmarked for Las Vegas Boulevard South is that the extensive facility will implement fuel cell and a micro turbine power system to supply 95 percent of the resort's electrical needs.
Steve Dooner, chief executive of the Las Vegas WET project, expects to be able to name the precise location of Las Vegas wet, scheduled to open in 2010, within the next few weeks once the final bit of land required has been secured.
The latest addition to the facility is a 5,000-seat multipurpose arena which would host basketball and volleyball teams and stage games.
