Native American Tribe plan Indoor Ski Slope
The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe in Michigan has announced plans to build an indoor ski slope as part of an expansion of their Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort.
The Saginaw Chippewa Indian’s Tribal Council revealed their "vision" of the future of their facility to its members at a community meeting yesterday.
Although details of the ski slope plan have not been confirmed, they are known to be amongst a host of planned developments, mostly centred on a 600 acre site around the existing resort in the Chippewa Township.
The full proposals include three more casino and hotel complexes, retail, a theme park, a water park and an outdoor recreation complex with a giant ferris wheel all linked together by a mass transit system such as a monorail.
The outline proposals were welcomed by Michigan Development Officials, although concerns were raised about the ability of local infrastructure – both roads and public services such as law enforcement, in coping with the otherwise welcome influx of additional tourists such a development would generate.
No timescale has been put on the development.
