Mad River Glen -Vermont
It is snowing once again and we have picked up about 3" overnight and we are expecting additional accumulations throughout the day today. Looks like we will have yet another POWDER DAY on our hands. The best December MRG has ever seen just keeps getting better. The Nor'easter earlier in the week dumped a good 16-20", on top of more than 5' of snow in the past two weeks plus, thus the skiing is truly "World Class".
If you know of someone who has never been to MRG you must tell them to make the pilgrimage now! The conditions are absolutely optimum and you will be skiing the Mad River Glen legend at its very best. We are setting up for an amazingly perfect holiday period!
Single Grand Opening
Photo: Mad River Glen , Yes that is a single Chair
The Grand Opening of the New Single Chair was a huge success. A boisterous and emotional crowd braved frigid temperatures to witness the dedication the new Chair #1. A re-creation of the original lifts opening festivities in 1948 was planned for the occasion. The program began with brief speeches by Mad River Glen President, Jamey Wimble and Vermont’s Commissioner of Tourism, Bruce Hyde. They were followed by Miss Vermont 1948, Jean Peatman and Miss Vermont 2007, Rachel Ann Cole unlocking the ceremonial “Lift Lock” to formally open the lift. The proceedings ended with each of the folks honored on the plaques on the backs of the new chairs having the opportunity to ride “their” chairs. Many old-time members of the Mad River Glen community came back to join us for what was a very special day. We even had a very pleasant visit from some new snowboarding friends. Here are a few photos from the event;
The Single Chair Capital Campaign has passed the $1.4 million mark! Thanks to everyone who has helped us get to this point. The push is on to meet our $1.54 million goal. Learn more about the campaign and how you can help us reach it. If you are thinking of a very special Christmas gift this season for the Mad River skier in your life be sure to think about sponsoring one of the new Single Chairs. 97 of the 147 new chairs have had their naming rights spoken for and they are going fast. If you have an interest in sponsoring one of the new chairs for yourself or to honor a loved one please contact the Co-op Office at (802) 496-3551 or via

The Dolomites - Italy
This year we have lots of great news for our skiers, that will make skiing in the Dolomites even more enjoyable.
New lift facilities 2007/2008
More comfort and safety, better slopes and connections
For years the ski resorts belonging to Dolomiti Superski have been constantly working towards modernisation and quality improvement for the joy of everybody. Rather than the creation of new ski resorts, more attention has been put towards the constant improvement of the already existing lift facilities, more safety and comfort, better and safer slopes and smoother connections that do not require you to take off your skis. During the summer seven new lifts have been built (substituting the already existing lift facilities), various slopes widened to increase safety and the artificial snow making facilities upgraded. 90% of the slopes can now be reached by the artificial snow making facilities making Dolomiti Superski one of the top ski regions in the world.

And now, you can guarantee your place in the middle of all the fun and save big at the same time. That’s because you can save up to 33% on dates all season long if you book your Whistler escape by November 15, 2007.

Construction is well underway on one of Whistler Blackcomb's landmark projects and Canada's newest tourism icon, the Peak to Peak Gondola. This autumn, Peak to Peak crews expect to complete concrete pours at the terminal sites located at Blackcomb Mountain's Rendezvous Lodge and Whistler Mountain's Roundhouse Lodge. They also expect to have towers Two and Three erected before the 2007/2008 winter season. Construction will resume in April 2008 and is scheduled to wrap up in time for a December 2008 grand opening.
Once completed, the gondola will become a tourism icon for British Columbia and Canada, bringing visitors from all over the world into the high alpine to experience scenic views. Supported by only four towers, the gondola will travel 4.4 kilometers (2.73 miles) in just 11 minutes – reaching a highest vertical point of 415 m (1,361 feet) above Fitzsimmons Creek, which is a world record. Coming in at $51 million, the Peak to Peak Gondola also breaks the world record for longest free span, with a distance of 3.024 kilometres (1.88 miles) stretching between the two towers furthest apart.
The Peak to Peak Gondola will travel 4.4 kilometres in just 11 minutes, transporting winter and summer guests from Whistler’s Roundhouse Lodge to the Rendezvous Lodge on Blackcomb Mountain, giving them unprecedented access to both mountains’ expansive and unique high alpine terrain and spectacular vistas.
2010 OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC WINTER GAMES
With the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games only three winters away, preparations are well underway in the resort and on the mountains.
Whistler Blackcomb is the venue for the men's and women's Olympic and Paralympic alpine skiing disciplines of Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom, Slalom and Super Combined. In preparation for these events, crews led by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), are contouring and reshaping the men's and women's downhill courses, located at Whistler Creekside. The men's downhill will take place on the Dave Murray course, while the women's downhill and all Paralympic alpine skiing events will take place on a newly designed race course on Wildcard and mid to lower Franz's Trail.
Improvements to snowmaking technology have been ongoing since 2006 and include doubling the size of the reservoir, installing snowmaking pipework and pump station upgrades. VANOC is spending approximately $17.6 million on snowmaking infrastructure for the Games, a legacy for Whistler Blackcomb long after 2010.

Kvitfjell is not the largest ski destination in the world, but many people declare that it is one of the best. The reason is probably the variation of the slopes skiers will find here. For the youngest as well as for beginners we have small bunny hills and for the more advanced skiers we can offer steeper slopes where the skies really catches wind. Skiers at all levels will find their own challenge in Kvitfjell that is why so many ski enthusiasts return to our destination.
Quality is our motto. Everything that has been and is being build here in Kvitfjell is of the highest quality, and that includes the destination as a whole. More than NOK 200 millions has been invested into different projects, which results in that Kvitfjell is one of the most modern state-of-the-arch destinations in Norway. Kvitfjell is able to cover approximately 80% of all slopes with artificial snow and due to this we are one of the first destinations to open every year.
Number of lifts: 7
Lift capacity: 8100 p/h
Longest run: 3500 m
Vertical drop: 840 m
Highest mountain: 1044m
There are many reasons why you should visit us in Kvitfjell this winter. From Kvitfjell you have access to more than 600 km of cross-country trails, a snowboard/terrain park, great ski instructors who will teach you to enjoy skiing, one of Norway’s most luxurious hotels in the mountains, etc.
