Panorama Mountain Village
Panorama Mountain Village, BC – Friday, February 1st 2008 – In March 2007, the first “ Mountain of Hope ” gala amassed over $11,000 for Panorama’s local community. The goal this year is to collect $15,000.
Spearheaded by Panorama’s Ski Patrol & Mountain Operations team, the benefit dinner raises money to support individuals someway linked to the resort in times of need.
According to Neil Carey, Ski Patrol Manager, the idea started back in 1997, when a long-term employee was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease; finding himself in need of funds to pay for the cost of travel and treatment. Carey and friends decided to pull together and do what they could for their colleague. With generous contributions and donations by employees, locals, and Invermere businesses, a raffle was organized to raise money. "There was no need for a formal organisation at that point", explains Carey. "Everything just sorted itself out".
As similar situations emerged over the years, Carey decided it was time to create an official fundraiser. "I wanted to find a way of doing what we've always done, but spruce it up a bit". The annual “ Mountain of Hope ” gala, a semi-formal dinner and silent auction, now raises money for a local emergency relief fund. "The fundraising will happen annually regardless of whether or not it is needed and will be available for community members in crisis situations ", explains Carey.
What started as help from a few friends is gradually developing into an official foundation. Recently, a committee was formed to create a mandate for donating funds.
On February 8th 2008, Panorama Mountain Village will host the second annual “ Mountain of Hope ” gala just in time for Valentine’s. After dinner and cocktails, a number of items will be up for grabs at the silent auction, including: golf at Greywolf, fly fishing trips, giftware, clothing, water sports, dinners, and more… Tickets can be purchased for $40 at Lusti’s Cappuccino Bar or by contacting Neil Carey at ncarey@intrawest.com or Nancy Brush at nbrush@intrawest.com.

Winter Carnival Soars at Silver Star
The Vernon Winter Carnival is set to launch with this year’s theme, Carnival in the Sky. The festivities take place Feb. 1 to 10 and offer something for everyone. Like always, Silver Star plays a major role in making Vernon Winter Carnival a huge success. Come to Silver Star for the annual Snow Sculpture competition from Feb. 1 to Feb. 3 and watch as artists transform gigantic blocks of snow into masterpieces. Keep an eye out for Peter Vogelaar, a multiple winner at Silver Star who has also sculpted pieces at the 2002 Nagano Winter Games, and again at the 2006 Winter Games in Torino. Perhaps you're more inclined to cross country skiing; the fourth annual Silver Star 75 gets underway Feb. 3. This event is a fundraiser for the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation and the Silver Star Nordic Racing Team. It's a great way to have fun while helping support a a pair of worthy causes.

Colorado Snow
DENVER, Colo. – Jan. 31, 2008 – Thanks to a steady pulse of storms streaming across the state this month, Colorado ski resorts are seeing record amounts of snowfall, abundant powder days and robust mid-season conditions. All 26 resorts have received fresh snow in the last 24 hours and season-to-date snowfall totals have surpassed 28 feet in some areas.

Combined, Colorado’s 26 member resorts have received 4,750 inches of snow this season, equaling roughly 395 feet. Since December 1, 2007, it snowed at Colorado resorts 59 out of 62 days, resulting in 51 official powder days (calculated as at least one resort receiving 5 or more inches of new snow).

January snowfall records were broken at both Crested Butte and Snowmass. Crested Butte broke their record after they received 41 inches of new snow this past week and Snowmass broke their record after receiving 38 inches of new snow.

This week in Southwest Colorado, Wolf Creek received 60 inches of fresh snow, Silverton 47 inches of snow, Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort 42 inches, and Telluride 32 inches of snow.

The Central Rockies have also been getting fresh snow with 26 inches at Monarch Mountain this week. On the Western slope, 31 inches of new snow fell on Powderhorn Resort and nearly two feet has fallen on Sunlight Mountain. Aspen Highlands received 32 inches of new snow, Aspen Mountain 30 inches and Buttermilk 24.

Steamboat and Howelsen Hill in Northern Colorado have received 23 inches and 8 inches of new snow respectively in the past week.

Along the Front Range this week recent snowfall brought 28 inches of powder to Breckenridge, 22 inches to Beaver Creek, 21 inches to Copper, 19 inches to Vail, 17 inches to Ski Cooper, 16 inches to Loveland, 13.5 inches to Winter Park. Arapahoe Basin and Keystone both received a foot of new snow and 9 inches fell at Eldora, 8 inches at SolVista Basin, and 3 inches at Echo Mountain.

The National Weather Service forecasters are calling for snow to continue falling throughout this weekend in Colorado.

Ski New Hampshire
Maybe the best part of the Patriots being in the Super Bowl is the empty slopes and lift ticket deals that pop up! NH ski areas are used to dealing with the Pats' success and know it takes a little something extra to get you out on snow on Super Bowl Sunday. With kickoff not until after 6:30 pm there's plenty of time to get a full weekend of skiing/riding in at a great price, especially considering how close most NH ski areas are to where you live! A few deals have been announced. Cannon is doing a two-for-one day on Sunday. Waterville Valley has a special lodging package for Sunday night that includes a ticket for Monday when all your friends are back at work. King Pine is hosting a #1 fan contest, with some great prizes including a season pass

The Dolomites - Italy
This year we have lots of great news for our skiers, that will make skiing in the Dolomites even more enjoyable. New Lifts
New lift facilities 2007/2008
More comfort and safety, better slopes and connections
For years the ski resorts belonging to Dolomiti Superski have been constantly working towards modernisation and quality improvement for the joy of everybody. Rather than the creation of new ski resorts, more attention has been put towards the constant improvement of the already existing lift facilities, more safety and comfort, better and safer slopes and smoother connections that do not require you to take off your skis. During the summer seven new lifts have been built (substituting the already existing lift facilities), various slopes widened to increase safety and the artificial snow making facilities upgraded. 90% of the slopes can now be reached by the artificial snow making facilities making Dolomiti Superski one of the top ski regions in the world.
