For the past two weeks, we have been enjoying what has felt like an early spring with sunny skies, mild temperatures and perfect California corn snow. It's time to welcome winter back as she is knockin' on our door for this weekend. A beautiful low pressure system is working its way in and snow is in the forecast through Sunday night. Bring out your big boards and make riding powder at Squaw Valley your plan for this weekend.
JEEP KING OF THE MOUNTAIN SERIES AT SQUAW FEB 25-26. The 13th Annual Jeep® King of the Mountain Race Series comes to Squaw Valley for the National Open Qualifiers and the grand finale of the Professional Skiing & Snowboardng World Championship. Look for lots of exciting competition, spectator fun and food & drink specials. Activities take place all weekend and include a monster Fireworks Celebration and opening ceremony at Squaw Saturday night beginning at 6:00 pm.
The Jeep® King of the Mountain Series announces an all-comers National Open Qualifier at Squaw Valley allowing local ski and snowboard racers the opportunity to earn a spot in the Professional Skiing and Snowboarding World Championships. The National Open Qualifier will take place on Sat., Feb. 25, with the top two male and female skiers and snowboarders advancing to the World Professional Championships on Sun., Feb. 26. Once there the qualifiers will find themselves competing head-to-head with the world's finest professional racers for a share of the richest prize purse in the industry. Qualification registration takes place at the VIP Tent at the bottom of Exhibition on Friday February 24th from 12 to 5:00PM. A Mandatory athlete meeting will be held at 6:00PM Friday. After skies clear briefly today, we will see snow sneak back into our forecast for the weekend. We could see 2 more feet by Sunday.
With these nice winter storms come brisk winter temperatures. It's -2 degrees at Main Lodge this morning with afternoon highs only expected to rise to the upper 10s. Bundle up! It's worth it!
With 8-10 feet of fresh powder, packed powder, firm and machine groomed snow, all lifts are expected to operate today with the exception of 7, 20 and 26.
