ALMOST THREE HUNDRED CENTIMETRES! That's nearly ten feet of snow! And that's what the current base is at Big White. This marks the earliest occasion in years that Big White will reach the 300 centimetre threshold, proving, once again, that "it's the snow!" Meanwhile Silver Star's solid 213 centimetre base will ensure a long spring skiing season.
SPRING BREAK IS NEAR and Big White & Silver Star are where it's at! 9th Annual Neil Edgeworth Banked Slalom
This memorial race commemorates a local pro snowboarder who was killed in an avalanche in Chamonix, France almost a decade ago. Pro and amateur riders from all around will compete for $5000 cash and over $10,000 in prizes!! Included with the entry fee is an event t-shirt and banquet dinner. During the month of March, both Silver Star and Big White are offering special instructor training programs. Get certified this spring, then 'join the team' of Ski School and Snowsports professionals at both mountains next season! If you are a strong parallel skier, become a pro or learn to ski and teach like one! Participants are introduced to the CSIA’s innovative, effective skiing techniques and teaching methods. CHRIS BECKMANN WINS DOWNHILL GOLD AT JUNIOR WORLDS NYSEF skier betters silver from one year ago LE MASSIF, Que. (March 2) - Chris Beckmann (Altamont, NY; U.S. C Team/N.Y. Ski Education Foundation) upgraded his silver medal from a year ago to claim the men’s downhill title Thursday as the 2006 Junior World Alpine Championships got underway in fog and light snow at Le Massif Ski Area. “I woke up this morning an hour before my alarm went off, and I couldn’t go back to sleep. I really wanted this win. I wanted gold,” Beckmann said after winning with a time of 1:27.26 over the 2.1K Charlevoix course.
Beckmann, sixth in 2004 and the 2005 DH silver medalist at Junior Worlds in Bardonecchia, Italy, edged Austrian Romed Baumann (1:27.55) with Canadian Stefan Guay (1:27.59) completing the podium. The race originally was scheduled for Friday but coaches and official agreed Wednesday night to move it up a day.

The road to 2014 Games
On 28 July 2005, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) accepted applications from seven National Olympic Committees (NOC) to host the XXII Olympic Winter Games in 2014. The cities applying to host these Games are: Almaty (Kazakhstan), Borjomi (Georgia), Jaca (Spain), PyeongChang (Republic of Korea), Salzburg (Austria), Sochi (Russian Federation) and Sofia (Bulgaria).
For a number of these cities the Olympic adventure started several years ago, either through a previous bid for the Olympic Winter Games or in a national bid to win the right to represent their country in the 2014 process.
