No other mountain can offer the Sugarloaf experience.

There's a reason generations have made Sugarloaf their year round escape - where family and friends gather for great skiing, great times and so much more. Golf, fishing, hiking, fall foliage and the best skiing in Maine are just outside your door. What a year for snow in Steamboat! With 338 inches (28.16 feet) of Champagne Powder® having fallen so far this year, we've broken our ten-year season average of 334 inches! Visit www.bigsno.com for take-your-breath-away powder images, ski movies and more.
Steamboat has another big reason to celebrate this February! Ski Town, U.S.A.® is cheering on 20 hometown Winter Olympians going for Gold in Torino. Steamboat's Olympic tradition dates back to the 1932 Olympics in Lake Placid, NY, where Steamboat's first Olympian, John Steele, placed 15th in Nordic jumping. Nelson Carmichael became the first Steamboat Olympian to win an Olympic medal, a bronze in moguls at the 1992 Winter Games. During the 1998 Nagano Games, Steamboat Olympian Shannon Dunn-Downing became the first American woman to win a medal in snowboarding. And in 2002, Travis Mayer burst onto the Olympic scene and brought home the silver medal in mogul skiing.

Steamboat is also home to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, one of the country's oldest and most successful clubs, as well as Howelsen Hill, which dates back to 1914 and is the oldest continuous operating ski area in Colorado. Steamboat is considered the birthplace of both freestyle skiing in the 1970's and Nordic jumping in Colorado, going back to the early 1900's.
