Snow and Stuff... Snowfall to date tops 30 feet; base depths are between 11 and 19 feet. Plenty of snow for everyone; 2300 acres of the most diverse terrain you’ll find a lift to in the High Sierra. For those who like it fast and steep, Kirkwood’s High Angle Grooming program will have you looking down some of the steepest groomed terrain in Lake Tahoe, with several black and double black diamond runs covered in wall to wall corduroy. Kirkwood’s legendary off-piste terrain such as Wagon Wheel Bowl, the Palisades and Thunder Saddle are all deep and soft and beckoning to the adventurous set to explore! For all levels, Kirkwood’s uncrowded slopes lend a sense of privacy and seclusion that is unmatched in Tahoe. All terrain parks are open with features for all levels of the freestyle set... gentle rollers and banked turns in Adventureland (Chair 9), low to the snow rails and fun boxes in the DC Playground (Chair 7), and the monster Mountain Dew SuperPipe, along with a full-blown rail yard and a series of high-flying hits in the DC Stomping Grounds (Chair 5).
CAT TOURS
Saturday, January 21st, 10AM. While the rest of Kirkwood’s guests were busy picking their lines from the chair lift, nine lucky individuals were climbing aboard Kirkwood’s brand new 12 passenger snowcat, about to ski 18 inches of fresh cold powder on the inaugural cat skiing expedition to Martin Point and Two Sentinels. A coveted area beyond the Palisades at the northern edge of Kirkwood’s Special Use Permit (SUP), Martin Point is known for great snow long after the storm and offers 1,300 feet of consistent pitch, with great fall line runs through trees, open bowls and gullies filled deep with soft powder. Previously accessible only by a long traverse and uphill hike, Expedition: Kirkwood now services Martin Point by snowcat, offering adventurous guests the quintessential powder skiing experience… deep powder runs, time to explore at your own pace and deluxe transportation that makes the trip to the top of the mountain as much fun as the ride down. As the cat breaks through the trees to the ridgeline that leads to Martin Point in one direction and Two Sentinels in the other, it offers incredible 360˚ views of the entire Kirkwood Valley, as well as landmark peaks such as Mt. Tallac, Freel Peak and Round Top. Experienced guides take the guess work out of getting down, ensuring all guests have plenty of options for fresh powder turns. From the cat ride up to the boundless lines down, Martin Point Powder Cat Tours is a guaranteed good time and a definite memory maker. Kirkwood

World Record Cliff Jump at Wyoming ski area
The Associated Press has reported that a devoutly religious Utah skier claims he has set a world-record cliff jump at the Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming, dropping 245 vertical feet (74m) off the back of Fred's Mountain.

Jamie Pierre, 32, of Salt Lake City, said he made his record-breaking jump on Wednesday as a way to spread the Christian word. He has previously dropped 180 feet and said he had been calculating this jump and waiting for perfect conditions for years.

The previous world record was set by Paul Ahern of New Zealand, who jumped 225 feet in 1995. Paul Ruff, a former world-record holder with a cliff jump of 110 vertical feet, died in 1993 on a 160-foot attempt.
