The weather man is obviously confused!
After a week of massive snowfall and winter conditions, we have since received a very mixed bag of weather. We have had wind, cloud, rain, a little snow, sun and now very mild weather, the weather man is obviously confused. Does he think its spring already? The snow that is forecast for late this week would suggest that winter isn’t over just yet. The warm weather has meant that people have been enjoying softer snow conditions than normally experienced in August. The upper mountain is still skiing very well and has benefited from some light dustings in recent days.

Free Ski Open Volkl Big Mountain
The Motatapu chutes and the weather turned it on for some of the best freeskiers from New Zealand and the world. Last Thursday 69 top freeski athletes got their chance to take on the chutes in an attempt to move on to the heli-accessed final. The large number of athletes meant that everyone received only one run, so they had to go all out to impress the judges. With the windy weather over the following days meaning that the helicopters could not fly, the finals had to be canceled and the top qualifiers were awarded the Big Mountain titles. Congratulations to TC’s own, Geoff Small and to Janina Kuzuma, both of New Zealand, who took out the male and female titles respectively.
