The trip up and away to the ""eternal ice "starts at 11am each morning. The meeting point is the Eisgrat mountain terminal. After checking that everyone’s equipment is OK, the group rides up to the Top of Tyrol at 3,150 m. An informative meeting with the Stubai mountain experts is held right in front of the Jochdohle mountain restaurant (3,150 m) each day. Profound insights into the world of the eternal ice form a good part of the agenda and are accompanied by practical tips, hints and information for mountaineers and nature-lovers. Meeting point: 12 noon at the Jochdohle mountain restaurant. The easiest way to get there is by taking the ‘Eisgrat’ and ‘Schaufeljoch’ cableways (about a 25 minute ride). At 1.45 pm we head back down along the Stubai glacier trail with a guide. The whole guided tour only takes place in good weather. The right equipment for a glacier hike: good, ankle-high footwear and weatherproof clothing (for hire at the Sports Shop). Note that the sun is very powerful at 3,000 m above sea level, so remember to use sun cream with a high protection factor and put on a glacier visor!

BURTON ABOMINABLE SNOW JAM Several eye witnesses at Timberline Resort and High Cascade Snowboard Camp have confirmed seeing a family of three yetis roaming around Mt. Hood, Oregon. It is believed that the yetis have returned to Mt. Hood just in time for Burton’s Abominable Snow Jam snowboarding competition, taking place at Timberline Resort from July 8-12, 2006 and featuring a quarterpipe, halfpipe and slopestyle competition. Top snowboarders like Chad Otterstrom, Nicolas Müller, Danny Davis, Kazuhiro Kokubo, Junko Asazuma, Takaharu Nakai, Natasza Zurek, Jussi Oksanen and Anne-Flore Marxer plan to head to Hood for the annual summer contest where this year’s off-the-hook prizes include Motorola phones, a Volvo C70, two Harley-Davidson 2006 Sportsters®, two 2007 Ski-Doo Freestyle Backcountry 550F snowmobiles and plenty of cold hard cash.
