Snow Alert - Alyeska Resort, Lake Tahoe, Kirkwood, Mammoth Mountain
***
Mammoth Mountain
Clouds are hanging around and the winds are low.
We may be in for a few scattered snow showers during the morning. At
the summit it is 27 degrees with mild winds.
The 7-10 feet of fresh
snow the last few storms left behind has made for excellent riding
conditions all across the mountain. The coverage now allows for more
exploration to find powder stashes and exciting natural features. If that's not
quite your thing, Mammoth also offers nearly 900 acres of smoothly
groomed terrain on 89 runs with soft snow.
All lifts are expected to run
today except Chairs 20 and 26. The park crew is working with all the
fresh snow to create new jumps and features, which should be up soon.
They've built up the roller for the showcase, so look for that jump to have
a ton of hang time once it's back up

FIS NEWS
In the men’s Audi FIS Alpine World Cup, Adelboden (SUI) again lived up to its reputation as the World Cup's toughest giant slalom hill last Saturday. With an excellent second run, Marc Berthod claimed his second career win after his first win had also come at Adelboden, in slalom, last season. Berthod led a 1-2 Swiss victory ahead of his mate Daniel Albrecht, the best finish for the Swiss there since 1996. 23,000 fans were on site on Saturday to cheer the home team on in the difficult conditions caused by the dreaded Föhn wind that had arrived on Thursday, wreaking havoc in the Alps with warm temperatures.
On Sunday, slalom specialist Mario Matt won his eighth World Cup slalom race, beating Austrian teammate Benjamin Raich on the difficult Kuonisbaergli course. 34 racers failed to finish the first run, including the two Swiss heroes Berthod and Albrecht. With his 2nd place finish, Raich strengthened his lead in the World Cup overall standings over Didier Cuche who did not race in the slalom. Raich also leads the slalom standings over Felix Neureuther (GER) who took 3rd in Adelboden on Sunday.
The men's next race at another classical Swiss site, Wengen, where the super combined is scheduled for Friday, and the original programme reversed due to the current weather forecast with the slalom now on Saturday and the downhill on Sunday.
The ladies’ tour stopped in Spindleruv Mlyn (CZE) where Denise Karbon (ITA) won her fourth consecutive World Cup giant slalom race this season on Saturday. It was the second time that the ladies returned to Spindleruv Mlyn after slalom and giant slalom events in December 2005, which were the first ever FIS Alpine World Cup races held in the Czech Republic.
In Sunday’s slalom, Marlies Schild of Austria returned to the top of the podium after a two slalom null numbers, beating Slovakian veteran Veronika Zuzulova who posted her career’s best result. Germany’s Maria Riesch took 3rd, her fourth podium of the season all of them coming in different events. Despite not finishing on Sunday, Nicole Hosp of Austria, the defending overall World Cup champion, maintained her overall World Cup lead with 559 points, with Riesch climbing to the 2nd, 34 points behind. The ladies season will continue with a giant slalom and slalom combination in Maribor (SLO) this weekend.

Stubai -Austria
The new terminal Mutterberg has already opened. Besides the roofed boarding-places, the terminal offers a large and extended entrance-ramp. Stair-climbing with ski-boots is part of the past. Also carrying the equipment is no longer necessary. In the new Intersport Comfort Center
We have replaced the Wildspitz twin-chairlift with a new construction. As well, the bottom station of the Wildspitz twin-chairlift was mislaid to the Windachferner. The highest peak at the Stubai Glacier is the Wildspitz twin-chairlift, which leads up to 3.210 m. Due to structural alterations, the chairlift's start up can already take place when it's snowing less. So we enable the visitors to attain the Daunferners' slope early in October

Mont-Blanc massif (4807 m), the highest mountain in the Alps, by magnificent glaciers and towering granite peaks that look like flames carved out of rock.
Chamonix's skiing extends over 3 main areas : Brévent/Flégère, offering south-facing slopes and exceptional views of the Mont-Blanc chain, the Grands Montets, high altitude north-facing slopes which dominate the village of Argentière and the Balme area, wide open slopes at the top of the Chamonix valley, bordering on Switzerland. The sister resort of les Houches lies at the opposite end of the valley and is accessible with the Mont-Blanc Unlimited ski pass.
Kandahar Race
Saturday 26 January 2008 to Sunday 27 January 2008
Created in 1928, it was the first international alpine competition to combine downhill and slalom events. This combination still exists in the Olympic Games and the World Championships. Both spectacular and very difficult, it remains a measure of excellence, even if over the past few years, skiers are increasingly less suited to such events.
By preserving the Kandahar name, and the Combined discipline, in particular in the World Cup rankings, Chamonix is stands out in its desire to continue the Kandahar legend.
