Snowbird, Utah –
Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort received the first snowfall of the season Friday evening when a strong system moved through Little Cottonwood Canyon depositing approximately one foot of snow atop 11,000-foot Hidden Peak and blanketing the entire resort.
“There is still work to be done on the new Peruvian Tunnel and Peruvian Express chairlift before winter arrives, but this first snowfall is exciting for everyone who loves to ski,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar .
Snowbird’s Snow Safety Department does not officially begin seasonal snowfall records until Nov. 1 so this week’s snowfall will not count toward the annual accumulation that averages 500 inches of light, dry powder.
Offering the longest season in Utah , Snowbird is scheduled to open for the 2006-07 season Saturday, Nov. 18. Last winter Snowbird received 586 inches of snow enabling skiing and riding from the Tram until Memorial Day.
North America’s first ski area tunnel, the Peruvian Tunnel, will greet skiers and riders for the 2006-07 winter season. Additional upgrades around the resort include a new high-speed quad chairlift, storm monitoring with the Snowbird SnowCam and Cliff Lodge room renovations. Not to be deterred by the snow, the 34th Annual Snowbird Oktoberfest will continue with dancing, live music, authentic food and fun for the kids. Four more weekends of the festival continue through Sunday, Oct. 8. Oktoberfest hours are noon to 6 p.m. and admission is free.

PARK CITY, Utah (Sept. 18) - Robert Reynolds and Steve Strandberg have been named trustees of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation, announced Foundation Vice President Trisha Worthington.
"We are thrilled to add two more outstanding individuals to our Board," said Worthington. "Their business expertise will benefit our organization and they will help increase USSA's presence in two very important markets - Boston and San Francisco."
Reynolds is vice chairman and chief operating officer of Fidelity Investments, the largest mutual fund company in the United States. He also is head of the Fidelity Management Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of FMR Corp. In addition, he serves as a trustee for the Fidelity family of mutual funds and is on the board of Fidelity Investments Canada Limited. Prior to being named COO in June 2000, Reynolds was president of Fidelity Investments Institutional Retirement Group. He was named to that position in 1996. He was president of Fidelity Institutional Retirement Services Company from 1989-1996, and an executive vice president of Fidelity Management Trust Company from 1984-1989. He joined Fidelity in 1984. Before joining Fidelity, Reynolds was senior vice president of North Carolina National Bank in Charlotte, N.C., from 1977-1984. Reynolds received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a major in finance from West Virginia University in 1974. He was elected to the Academy of Distinguished Graduates of West Virginia University and serves as a director of the Foundation Board for the University. He also serves on the Board of the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, the Board of Concord Museum and the National Board of the American Ireland Fund. Reynolds is an avid skier and enjoys the slopes of Jackson Hole, WY.
Strandberg, an active supporter of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, is Managing Director and co-founder of WestBridge Ventures, which started in 1999. Prior to WestBridge, Strandberg was with Merrill Lynch where he was founder and head of the West Coast Technology Investment Banking group, specializing in advising emerging private companies on financings and mergers and acquisitions.
He began his technology investment-banking career with Morgan Stanley, and also worked at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. Steve earned his MBA in 1986 from Harvard Business School and his AB in 1978 from the University of Chicago. In 1982 Strandberg co-founded ARAMEX, a transportation logistics company based in Amman, Jordan that serves the Middle East.
Currently, Strandberg is Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Francisco, a trustee of Town School for Boys, a director of the Wood River Land Trust and serves on the visiting committee for the College of the University of Chicago. Strandberg and his wife Diana, who works as an asset manager with Dodge & Cox, have two teenage sons and live in San Francisco.
The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation is the nonprofit, fundraising arm of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Teams that are managed by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), the national governing body of Olympic skiing and snowboarding. With the vision to be the best in the world in Olympic skiing and snowboarding by 2006, the Foundation raises money to support year-round athlete training, development, competition and educational needs of world-class athletes pursuing the Olympic dream. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team receives no federal funding or subsidy moneys and operates solely through private donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. Fernie, BC – NEW this season,...
The views will take your breath away at the new Lost Boys Café, Fernie Alpine Resort’s newest on-mountain addition for the 2006-2007 ski season.
Located at the top of the Timber Express Quad Chair, the Lost Boys Café will provide skiers and riders a beautiful setting to satisfy their appetites. Enjoy a piping hot baked potato with traditional and exotic toppings, fresh baked goods, Starbucks espresso coffees, and specialty items only available at The Lost Boys Café. This licensed facility will feature Kokanee draft beer and a fine selection of E&J Gallo wines. Outside, the wraparound deck will showcase spectacular views of the White Pass, Elk Valley and the town of Fernie.
The 1080 square foot building is an alpine-themed timber and stone structure. Many of the timber logs used in construction have come from the run grooming and glading projects that occurred this summer to further enhance the resort’s 107 runs and glades
The Lost Boys Café is named after the pass of the same name that sits outside of the current ski area boundary above Siberia Bowl. It was originally named after a couple of young local boys who went backcountry touring through the Pass and were lost and subsequently rescued in the area before the resort was expanded to that side. Many backcountry skiers have followed in their footsteps, sure they could find their way back to the boundaries of the Resort before nightfall, but each year the ski patrol responds to missing backcountry skiers and riders that have been drawn into the trap of Lost Boys Pass and spent a night in the cold.
The café is expected to open in time for the season opening on December 9th.
