BASE: 18"
CONDITIONS: MMG (Machine Made Groomed)
FORECAST: Sunny and Clear

For the past two years the ski area has been the first to open in the nation and this year A-Basin continues that trend.

Opening day adult lift tickets will be available for $49, youth tickets age 15 - 19 will be $44 and child tickets age 6-14 will be $25. US SKI TEAM NEWS
WITTENBERG, Germany (Oct. 17) - When it comes to specific race preparation, the U.S. Ski Team goes 'All Out,' or in this case, all in. In order to ready for the upcoming Europa Cup indoor slalom at Landgraaf, Netherlands, tech aces Cody Marshall (Pittsfield, VT) and Tim Kelley (Starksboro, VT) joined up with Paul MacDonald (Bellevue, WA) for a training block at Snow Funpark, an indoor skiing facility in Wittenberg, Germany. "We slept at the same place we skied, you can't beat that," said Marshall, who had a breakout World Cup season last winter scoring slalom points at both Wengen, Switzerland and Zagreb, Croatia. "It's like a hockey rink with a pitch and it's absolutely perfect for practicing ways to find speed on flat sections." And with around 20 gates in the set, they get a lot of practice. At 330 meters in length, Snow Funpark is essentially a giant refrigerator laid diagonally on stilts. Only, this refrigerator also houses a hotel, restaurant, and for the U.S. Ski Team, slalom training. "You can't create this kind of snow outside. It's around 22 seconds per run, so you get a lot of chances to work on your technique," Marshall said. "Our coaches Tom Sell and Pete Korfiatis have helped us out a ton and we've been pushing each other pretty hard. It's funny to say, but it's been a really good session and none of it was outside."

For Marshall, the measure of good slalom training is based upon the number of broken gates tallied at the end of the week. "We broke a lot gates. I feel kind of bad about that, but if you want to be fast, you've got to hit them hard," he said.
Marshall enters his third season on the World Cup carrying the momentum of a breakthrough year highlighted by a 19th place finish in Wengen on a day where the first run was held in blinding snow and the second in rain. Following the Europa Cup in Landgraaf on Nov. 6, where McDonald was second last season, he heads to Levi, Finland for the first World Cup slalom.
"I'm really psyched for Levi. I was pumped to go there last year, but it was moved to Reiteralm [Austria] because there wasn't enough snow in Finland," Marshall said. "Hopefully it will go off this year. I gained some really good experience on the World Cup last year and I'm really fired up to get on it this winter."
The men's 2009 Audi FIS World Cup season opens Oct. 25 with a giant slalom in Soelden, Austria. Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) opened his run to the 2008 World Cup giant slalom title with a second place at the annual kick off race in Soelden.

Panorama
What’s New At Panorama For Winter 2008/09
Last winter was crammed with World Cup Races, epic snow days, park and pipe events, and wonderful spring skiing. With the return of winter this year, skiers and boarders will notice several enhancements on and off the mountain, all aimed at making their stay at Panorama even better.
For the first time, U.S. travelers will have fast and convenient access to Panorama Mountain Village and British Columbia’s Powder Highway. From December 17th, 2008, Delta Airlines will fly three times a week direct from Salt Lake City to the new Canadian Rockies International Airport, in Cranbrook, b.c. From there, it’s a short drive to Panorama. Check www.delta.com for fares and more information.
At a time when other resorts in the region have eliminated jumps and “air” from their freestyle terrain, Panorama is going BIG! This coming season freestylers will ‘Showoff’ in a terrain park that is almost one mile long. In full view of Panorama’s slopeside village and the Mile 1 Quad, the park will be the biggest and best in the Canadian Rockies region.
“This season, we’re going to make a huge change to our park. We’re going to put it directly under the Mile One Quad on Showoff. Not only will you be able to watch the show from the enhanced Great Hall deck, but when you’re riding the lift, it will seem like our outstanding local riders and visiting pro’s are flying overhead” explains Kirby Brown, President and Chief Operating Officer. “Although we are going to give high end freestylers the terrain to match their skills, the features will also be about progression. We want to build a space where anyone so inclined can gradually build up their skills and experience the thrills that park riding brings.”
For many people, a visit to Panorama Mountain Village is their first time on skis or a snowboard. New for the 2008/09 season, Panorama has enlarged the beginners area, installed a brand new 135 metre magic carpet (replacing the handle-tow), and introduced programs to enable those new to the mountains and the sport to just get up and go.
Panorama has long been known for outstanding grooming on Canada’s longest uninterrupted fall-line cruisers and continues to focus on the quality of the snow surface. This year grooming will be extended to the Founder’s Ridge area, opening even more terrain for intermediate skiers and riders.
Panorama Mountain Village is committed to responsible environmental action. The innovative Intrawest Project Planet initiative has been in place for several years; this winter the resort goes one step further. All Panorama common areas will be cleaned with environmentally friendly products, faucets and toilets in public washrooms are being converted to low-flow, and washrooms are now stocked with 100% recycled papers. Panorama Mountain Village, located in the Purcell Mountains, has one of the largest vertical descents in North America. Quad chairlifts give access to the summit and over 100 trails, including former Heli-Ski terrain in Taynton Bowl. Panorama is also home to Greywolf, ranked British Columbia’s best golf course by Golf Digest. For more information,

The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) confirmed today that official hospitality packages for the XXI Olympic Winter Games that include tickets and accommodation are now on sale through CoSport at www.cosport.com. As the Official Hospitality Services provider for the 2010 Winter Games, CoSport offers 47 different packages to a wide variety of Olympic Winter Games events.

“With the recent attention and warranted concern regarding unauthorized ticket agents and hospitality package providers, we want to ensure that consumers have an authorized source where they can be confident the hospitality packages they purchase are official and legitimate. Jet Set Sports and its sister company CoSport have provided unparalleled hospitality experiences at Olympic Games since 1984, and we’re very pleased to partner with them in welcoming the world in 2010,” said Dave Cobb, VANOC executive vice president, Revenue, Marketing and Communications.

“We recognize that being able to book confirmed accommodation and tickets is a valuable and attractive opportunity, particularly for out-of-region spectators,” continued Cobb. “CoSport provides a simple, official, ‘one-stop’ source to book a once-in-a-lifetime hospitality package for the 2010 Winter Games.”

All hospitality packages available from CoSport include both tickets and accommodation and are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. Hospitality package prices range from $3,806 to $34,500 (US dollars). Tickets included as part of CoSport’s hospitality packages include a wide range of both preliminary and medal-round events spread across all sports and ceremonies, representing 2.3 per cent of the 1.6 million tickets available to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Jet Set Sports and CoSport also offer hospitality packages for the 2010 Winter Games in several other countries including Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Sweden and the United States.
