AMERICAN WINTER OLYMPIANS GRAHAM WATANABE & CASEY PUCKETT CAPTURE OVERALL JEEP® KING OF THE MOUNTAIN WORLD PROFESSIONAL CHAMPION HONORS IN SQUAW VALLEY USA, CALIF
Such is the depth of competition at the Jeep King of the Mountain Series, now in its 13th season as professional snow sports’ most prestigious event. The ski roster was no less daunting, with Winter Olympian Daron Rahlves, who recently announced his retirement from Olympic competition, battling World Champion Tomas Kraus of the Czech Republic and former U.S. Olympians Casey Puckett and Jake Fiala. Watanabe, of Salt Lake City, Utah, a winner at the 2005 Valle Nevado World Cup and South American Cup. Krassnig, who has amassed 53 top-10 World Cup finishes in his career, reached the Championship heat by defeating Guillaume Nantemod of Switzerland, a former FIS World Champion currently ranked fourth in the world, and Holland, of Squaw Valley, Calif. Watanabe ended up capturing third place at Squaw with a win over Holland in the Consolation Heat, but earned the season-long title based on points earned throughout the four-event series.
At the end of the day, Watanabe, of Salt Lake City, Utah, captured the title of World Professional Champion in men’s snowboarding with Puckett of Aspen, Colo., bringing home the coveted honor in the men’s ski competition. On the women’s side, Winter Olympian Doresia Krings of Austria earned World Professional Championship in snowboarding with Ophelie David of France nabbing the top prize in the skiing competition.
In the men’s snowboard competition, Anderson, known as the Canadian Rocket for his 20-plus World Cup wins, earned the individual Squaw Valley event title with a victory over Krassnig in the Championship Heat. Anderson earned a spot in the finals by out-dueling Winter Olympian
Lukas Gruener of Austria, ranked second overall in the FIS Snowboard Cross Standings, and
In the men’s ski competition, Puckett, a four-time Winter Olympian and 2004 Jeep King of the Mountain World Professional Champion, captured the individual event title and World Professional Champion honors by defeating long-time rival Kraus in the Championship Heat. Earlier in the day, Puckett, of Aspen, Colo., had notched victories over Isidor Gruner of Austria, second overall in the 2005 FIS Skier Cross World Championships, and Fiala of Frisco, Colo. Kraus reached the finals by topping TJ Lanning of Park City, Utah, a member of the U.S. Ski Team and Rahlves of Truckee, Calif., recognized as the most accomplished speed-event skier in U.S. history with nine wins and 21 overall World Cup podiums. Rahlves held on for third place by topping Fiala in the Consolation Heat. A national audience will be able to view the Jeep King of the Mountain Series race from Squaw Valley USA on March 25 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. EST on CBS Sports, and on nationally syndicated television across the U.S. between March 13 and April 2.
The Jeep King of the Mountain was established in 1993. Jeep is the title sponsor for the Jeep King of the Mountain Series.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Narrows Tram Replacement Options And Confirms Interim Capital Plans More Capacity on Bridger Gondola, Temporary Chair up Rendezvous Bowl (Teton Village, WY., February, 2006) The June 2005 decision to close the Aerial Tram October 2006 was made following 18 months of unprecedented evaluation into all facets of Tram operations by leading industry engineers. The results required JHMR to make a decision regarding ongoing tram operations. Although tough and emotional news, JHMR is now focusing its attention on the future and feasible solutions regarding tram replacement. Discussions with two lift manufacturers will render JHMR with a couple of complete scenarios for review. We are focused on either a tram or a bi-cable gondola, both on a similar alignment to the existing tram. The financing of either project is being discussed internally. "We have decided at this time to not concentrate our efforts on outright appropriation but instead are researching other public and private financing mechanisms," commented Jerry Blann, President JHMR. "We will keep the public informed as soon as financing alternatives are thoroughly evaluated which will allow for a replacement decision to be made." He added. For Winter 2006/07
07 With the absence of the tram, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will implement the following measures to ensure guests can ski or ride 100% of the mountain, lift out of the base is quick and efficient, and lift access to the summit of Rendezvous Bowl and the infamous Jackson Hole backcountry terrain remains. Yes I Love the Winter Olympics. The tradition of nations gathering ( In Peace),competiting, cultural activities, pagentry and tradtition. I spent my weekend watching the Jeep sports Event and crusing the, Olympic Lady gully DHN slope of KT-22 as a storm rolled in.
I tip my helmet to ALL of every country, Win loose or tie, You were there! I visited the Italian alps last summer between stays in Zermatt and Wengen CH. Beautiful is an understatement, Chocolate is also a way of life and Milan fashion makes my day! Whatever your preference, experience a new mountian, new culture and new friends. You won't regret the total experience.

Misc. Utah skier claims he has set a world-record cliff jump at the Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming, dropping 245 vertical feet (74m) off the back of Fred’s Mountain.
Jamie Pierre, 32, of Salt Lake City, said he made his record-breaking jump on Wednesday as a way to spread the Christian word. He has previously dropped 180 feet and said he had been calculating this jump and waiting for perfect conditions for years.

History Lesson 101
On March 19th 1905 Zdarsky organised the world’s first gate Alpine ski races which were celebrated with centenary events in Lilienfeld last winter. 1906 was the year that Zdarsky began a special ski train service from Vienna, bringing the first of the 20,000 skiers he taught to ski during the remainder of his life. It was also his fiftieth birthday year and this winter Lilienfeld is celebrating the 150th anniversary of his birth.
On the weekend of February 24th and 25th the resort will welcome delegations from partner-towns that were also significant in Zdarsky’s life - Joetsu in Japan where he went to teach and Trebic in the Czech Republic near where he was born for a birthday celebration.
