The U.S. Ski Team's Pat Deneen (Cle Elum, WA) took the competition by storm Saturday, winning the gold medal in moguls at the 2009 FIS Freestyle Ski World Championships in Japan

Deneen was closely followed in the men's competition by teammate Sho Kashima (South Lake Tahoe, CA) who finished sixth. In the women's moguls, Shannon Bahrke (Tahoe City, CA) headed up the list for the U.S., finishing sixth. On top of having the fastest time down the course, Deneen stuck a Back X, a trick he only learned four days ago, off the top jump. He then landed a D Spin off the bottom jump after struggling with the maneuver for the past few weeks. Deneen said his ability to perform his air packages so well came from added effort away from the competition trail. "I went home, worked on it and came back here and everything worked," Deneen said. "I had a really tough training day yesterday and same with this morning, but everything just went together for my finals run. It's pretty amazing. "This is the toughest moguls course in the world. It was some tough skiing out there today and I had my only top to bottom runs in the actual competition

Hlíðarfjall - Iceland
The ski slopes of Hlíðarfjall are a paradise for skiers; and if you are staying in Akureyri they are right on your doorstep. The environment is of the best and the ski lifts can carry 2930 persons per hour to the slopes above. The difference in altitude from lowest point to highest is about 500 meters. The Ski Centre was built up during the years 1955-1964 but formal operations began in 1962. The ski lodge stands at a height of 506 meters above sea level and can provide sleeping accommodation in twin rooms for 22 persons, besides having a communal sleeping area which can take 70 persons. The ski hut Strýta lies at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level and has a shop and toilet facilities for the use of visitors to Hlíðarfjall The new ski lift, which has been given the name Fjarkinn, is the pride of the Hlíðarfjall Ski Centre. It is 1000 meters long and carries 4 persons per seat. Fjarkinn replaced the oldest ski lift in the country and its capacity is many times that of its predecessor; 2000 persons an hour instead of a mere 450. It is now but a 61/2 minute ride to Strýta!!

Jungfrau- Switzerland
Jungfraujoch–Top of Europe (3454 m) An excursion up to the eternal glacier world of Switzerland’s high Alps is an unforgettable experience. At 3454 metres, the Jungfraujoch is the highest-altitude railway station in Europe. From Kleine Scheidegg, the railway travels through the tunnel behind the notorious Eiger North Wall – with stops at two stations with viewing windows hewn in the bare rock – and on to the underground “peak” railway station, Jungfraujoch–Top of Europe

Schilthorn–Piz Gloria (2970 m) The Schilthorn shot to international fame as a spectacular location for the 007 film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. The views of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau from the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant are simply stunning
Männlichen (2230 m) Enjoy the spectacular cogwheel railway trip from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen. The bottom station of the Wengen–Männlichen aerial cableway is only a few minutes walk from the railway station and village centre. From here it takes just five minutes to soar up over 1000 metres to the Männlichen summit (2230 m). Männlichen is also easy to reach from Grindelwald Grund with Europe’s longest aerial gondola.

Waterville Valley
Inches of fresh snow today is setting Waterville Valley up for another great couple of weeks on the slopes. And it's still snowing. Check out today's powder photo and Jeremy's daily video here.

All 52 trails are open for your skiing and riding adventures plus all five glades and the bump fields on Rock Island, Tyler Too and True Grit. Luke says the Superpipe is in fine shape and Exhibition, Little Slammer, Psyched and the Burton Progression Park are getting a lot of traffic. Luke's latest report is right here, and Tom's Mountain Update is here.

100% of the Waterville Valley cross country trails are open too. According to Mike Seeger, Nordic Director, "As always spring never really comes to our neighborhood until it's over." Looks like Mike is right again.
