U.S. freestyle skiers collect four medals from Russia
KRASNOE OZERO, Russia (March 7) - U.S. skiers are returning from Russia with four medals earned during freestyle’s Junior World Championships, which were held for the first time since 2003 in Canada. Jay Bowman-Kirigan (Salt Lake City/Wasatch Freestyle Foundation) picked up two medals, silver in dual moguls and bronze in moguls.
Moguls opened the schedule Friday and Russians won both events with Andrey Volkov and Ekaterina Stolyarova taking gold. Bowman-Kirigan and Caterina Mader (Steamboat Springs, CO/Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club) collected bronze in their respective contests while there also were three other top-5s for the Americans: Bryon Wilson (South Taylorsville, UT) was fourth in the men’s event while Mckenzy Golding (Reno, NV/Squaw Valley Freestyle Team) and Kayla Snyderman (Winchester, MA/Waterville Valley BBTS) finishing 4-5 among the women.
The next day, it was dual moguls. Bowman-Kirigan was silver medalist, again behind Volkov, while Patrick Deneen (Elum, WA/Silver Mountain Freestyle) was bronze medalist. In the women’s contest, Alizee Boulangeat of France won while Mader and Snyderman went 4-5.
Aerials completed the competition Monday. U.S. skiers again finished fourth in each competition, just off the podium - Allison Lee (Manchester, VT/Waterville Valley BBTS) was fourth in the women’s event while Dylan Ferguson (Amesbury, MA/WV BBTS) missed the men’s podium by 2.56 points.

Snow making investment
Cardrona Alpine Resort is investing in snow making and grooming equipment to supplement its large amount of natural snow with man made snow. Approximately $2 million will be invested in snowmaking and state-of-the-art grooming equipment.
Cardrona believes a new standard of snow conditions in Australasia will be set with
this investment. Although we have bountiful amounts of natural snow in most years,
we have been investigating the extent to which the latest snowmaking technology
will ensure our customers have their key trails, rails, jumps and half pipes open
at the start of the season.
Macdougalls’ and Captain’s chairlifts, on higher parts of the mountain, receive
enough natural snow to operate every day of the season without additional snowmaking.
This investment is aimed at the main trails parallel with the Whitestar chairlift
and the increasing amounts of snow required for the terrain park and half pipes.
Cardrona Alpine Resort is adding a fourth children’s centre to its already
comprehensive family facilities as part of a $4million investment for the
