The Dolomites
in the Veneto Region (north of Venice )North East of Turin
Don’t miss the chance for a special summer holiday! Book your weekly stay at one of the participating hotels and get advantage of our special packages. To be entitled to all discounts, please ask for your free “Summer weeks card” at the hotel reception and show it to the Associations concerned. You may choose among a variety of activities with the Alpine Guides or with the Cortina Adrenalin Center, get discounts on lift tickets, on ice-skating rink and swimming-pool entry as well as on mountain bike rental. And for the Family: free accommodation for children up to 8 and special rates for all children up to 12. For further information please visit our webpage – summer section : Dolomiti Org Cortina
Ski season is open and conditions are great in the 12 skiing areas of the Dolomiti Superski carousel: the wonder of having one single skipass for 1,220 km of slopes, 460 lift facilities from Cortina d'Ampezzo, Auronzo/Misurina, San Vito di Cadore to Plan de Corones, from Alta Badia to Gardena Valley and Alpe di Siusi, from Val di Fassa/Carezza to Alta Val Pusteria and Val di Fiemme, from Passo Rolle, to Valle dell'Isarco, the Tre Valli, the Civetta and Marmolada skiing area. New for the season: one day and season skipasses at the same price of 2004/05; a number of renewed lift facilities for better connections and more comfort; with the new e-skipass via internet straight to the lift
Thanks to Taxi Bob, the thrill and emotion of speed on ice - once only reserved for legendary sports figures - is something which anyone can now experience, and in perfect safety. Since Cortina’s Olimpic Bobrun and modern 4-man racing bobsleds are used, Taxi Bob is almost like participating in a real race. Setting off is the most delicate moment, overcoming the fear of not knowing what is expecting you. And this is probably much more that you might imagine! But do not worry. Everything happens in perfect safety. After a picture at the start (and a signature on your will), there is no way you can step out of the bob after it has started moving! From now on it will only be unbelievable acceleration, up to 75 miles per hour, 100 seconds of shear excitement that will never be forgotten.

Experienced skiers, who wish to practise “extreme skiing”, can find here some of the most breathtaking back-country excursions in the world; the guidance of a professional Mountain Guide is strongly recommended. If you wish to ski down the steep narrow gorges known as Creste Bianche, Bus Tofana, Canalino del Prete and Sci 18, you absolutely must contact the Gruppo Guide Alpine di Cortina. A good knowledge of the itinerary, the ability to evaluate weather and snow conditions, and the due respect for every possible precautionary measure are essential requirements.

So come on out to Big Mountain Resort and Whitefish this weekend to ski, ride and have a winter carnival blast! The fastest horse and skier to make it successfully through the course wins! Don't miss the Sunday long jump competition that tops it all off. Registration is Feb. 3rd at Majestic Valley Arena from 6-9pm. Ski Joring events are held at the Whitefish Airport from 12pm-3pm on Feb. 4th and 5th. Call (406) 862-3501 for more information. Big air, tricks and are all a part of this wild ride new to the Winter Carnival this year

Lillehammer
Olympic venues revisited
XVII Olympic Winter Games

PHOTO: IOC Archives /IOC Museum Lasaunne
In 1986 the IOC voted to change the schedule of the Olympic Games so that the Summer and Winter Games would be held in different years. To adjust to this new schedule, the Lillehammer Games were held in 1994, the only time that two Games have been staged two years apart. The 1994 Games were extremely well organised and the Norwegian host' natural love of winter sports added a refreshing purity of spirit. Local hero Johann Koss won three speed skating events and set a world record in every one. Vreni Schneider won a complete set of medals in alpine skiing and Manuela Di Centa earned medals in all five cross-country events. Myriam Bedard won both women's individual biathlon races. Gustav Weder and Donat Acklin became the first repeat winners of the two-man bobsled. Pairs skaters Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov returned to repeat their Olympic victory of 1988.

Kvitfjell
Kvitfjell is not the largest ski destination in the world, but many people declare that it is one of the best. The reason is probably the variation of the slopes skiers will find here. For the youngest as well as for beginners we have small bunny hills and for the more advanced skiers we can offer steeper slopes where the skies really catches wind. Skiers at all levels will find their own challenge in Kvitfjell that is why so many ski enthusiasts return to our destination.
Quality is our motto. Everything that has been and is being build here in Kvitfjell is of the highest quality, and that includes the destination as a whole. More than NOK 200 millions has been invested into different projects, which results in that Kvitfjell is one of the most modern state-of-the-arch destinations in Norway. Kvitfjell is able to cover approximately 80% of all slopes with artificial snow and due to this we are one of the first destinations to open every year. Snow report

The air/water system from Italian company TechnoAlpin will bring snowmaking onto the Castaway trail accessed by the Sugar Bowl quad chairlift. There will also be snowmaking at the top of the Superpipe and adjacent to the Terrain Park. From Patrick Thorne Snow365.com Snow365

Heavenly is now home to the West Coast’s biggest Superpipe! Located off of Canyon Express, the High Roller Superpipe is cut by one of only two 22-foot Zaugg Pipe Monsters in North America. Our Superpipe lives up to the High Roller name with walls higher than X-Games and Olympic-sized halfpipes! If you’re not quite ready to hit the Superpipe’s mega 22+ foot walls, an 8-foot minipipe will be coming soon
With 4,800 acres, we are one of North America's largest mountains. At over 10,000 feet, we are Tahoe's highest. Our 3,500 foot vertical is unmatched on the West Coast. And our average annual snowfall is a formidable 360 inches. And just in case that's not enough for you, we have one of the largest snowmaking systems on the continent at the ready, covering 70% of the mountain.
Let's talk terrain. Put simply, we've got it all, from breezy blue squares to hair-raising black diamonds. There's no better tree skiing on earth. And experts will have a field day at Mott and Killebrew canyons.
