Steamboat
Storm Peak was blowing sideways with poor visibility. I dropped into the Closet to find an untouched cove of snow-loaded trees and tight lines. Dropping a knee into such light, succulent fluff is like biting into juice. Explosions of snow just go everywhere while the sweet taste of linking turn after turn makes you thirsty for more. I milked this one down to the very last tree before popping out at Sundown Express--time for a second helping.

The weather was much friendlier this ride up, and I decided to sample the aspen trees. Some big air bumps mixed with more fluff in the Shadows was fun, but I angled back into the dark timber where the snow seemed a bit meatier and the lines were more isolated. Definitely a hearty meal to start the day, so get out and feast till your belly bursts, because this binge will do your body good!

Downhill Italian BIKE championship - 3,4,5 August 2007 The new event for this coming summer in Cortina is the Italian Downhill Championships, one of the most eargerly awaited dates in the Italian mountain bike downhill calendar for 2007.
The "Freccia nel Cielo" route, which descnds from the Tofana massif, has been designed by Antonio Silva, trainer of the Italian national downhill team. It has received appreciation by Italian champion Alan Beggin who, during reconnaissance, described it as certianly among the best tracks in Italy in terms of scenery, route quality and difficulty. The route indeed involves a string of jumps, humps and forest sections, as well as some thrilling raised bends that exploit the old Olympic Bob run.
Friday 03 August free trial runs; Saturday 4 August, official runs; Sunday 5th, Italian Downhill Championship with Big party afterwards at the village that will be set up in the arrival area. Starting 1 July it will be possible to apply to take part in the race using a form available on the web site www.pedalidimarca.it

THE HONDA SKI TOUR ARRIVES AT ASPEN/SNOWMASS, CO, FEBRUARY 22-25, 2007

The third stop on The Honda Ski Tour & BaseCamp Music Experience 2007 attracts ski enthusiasts along with big-name bands, parties and the world’s best ski cross and halfpipe ski competitors
Sun Valley, ID, February 15, 2007—Aspen/Snowmass, CO, is only the third resort to host the inaugural season of The Honda Ski Tour (THST). THST is North America’s new elite, four-stop mountain festival and skiing competition that features the world’s best halfpipe and ski cross skiers competing for a total of $500,000 over four stops, the largest purse in the sport. The final tour stop and championships are being held in Squaw Valley USA, CA, March 8-11, and past tour stops include Sun Valley, ID, and Breckenridge, CO. The BaseCamp Music Experience (BCME) at Aspen/Snowmass will feature over 10 big-name musical acts headlined by world famous dancehall reggae artist Sean Paul alongside the multi-day alpine festival including street parties and countless parties. THST’s Aspen/Snowmass stop will be nationally televised (in a one-hour show) on ABC network television on Sunday, March 11, 2pm EST / 1pm CT / 12pm MST / 11am PST. Please check your local listings for changes. Confirmed athletes for THST Aspen/Snowmass skier halfpipe competition include X Games gold medalists and previous winners of THST halfpipe Simon Dumont (Sun Valley winner) and Tanner Hall (Breckenridge winner), who both took home $25,000 respectively for their winning runs. Dumont leads THST point’s standings with 150 points while Peter Olenick sits in second with 106, followed by Hall with 100, Matt Philippi with 95 and Mike Riddle with 80.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently approved the addition of ski cross for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), the national governing body for Olympic skiing, is officially calendaring THST 2007 as a sanctioned USSA ski cross event. Athletes confirmed for THST Aspen/Snowmass ski cross includes undefeated THST ski cross winner, Olympian and Aspen/Snowmass local, Casey Puckett, who leads the point’s standings with 200 points. Stanley Hayer who has placed second and third at previous THST stops sits comfortably in second with 160 points. U.S. Ski Team legend Daron Rahlves, who has had some bad luck (crashing in the semi-finals and finals at both THST stops and the 2007 X Games) sits in third place overall with 95 points. X Games gold medalists Lars Lewen, Zach Crist, Enak Gavaggio, and ski cross World Champion Tomas Kraus will also be fighting for the $25,000 winner’s check.
“It’s always exciting when another high profile event comes to Aspen/Snowmass,” said John Rigney, Vice President of Sales & Events for Aspen Skiing Company. “What makes this special is that The Ski Tour is brand new, yet has captured the attention of skiing enthusiasts everywhere. The talent we’ll be witnessing is truly incredible, and the sport of skiing will only benefit. Plus, we get to share the incredible story of Snowmass with these influencers and the rest of the viewing world.”

The nightlife at the Aspen/Snowmass stop of The Honda Ski Tour will rival the on-slope action with BCME headliners such as Sean Paul, George Clinton and the P Funk All Stars, Swollen Members, Tommy Lee with DJ Aero, Joseph Israel, Elan and DJ Dylan, Jillian Ann, DJ Logic and more. Showcasing the year’s best action sports segments from the biggest producers in the game, the Limelight Film Festival highlights from THST Sun Valley, ID, stop will be aired throughout the Aspen/Snowmass THST on the Jumbotron at the base of the competitions and in the town’s bars and restaurants. The Limelight Film Festival covers the entire spectrum of action-adventure filmmaking from the biggest producers in the game, with segments by Teton Gravity Research, Warren Miller, Jason Moriarty, Kent Kreitler, Jamie Mossberg, Standard Films and Lindgren Productions. Highlights from the five world-class photographers who showcased the best work of their careers at the Sun Valley Pro Photo Shootout will also be featured throughout the Aspen/Snowmass THST. Scott Markewitz, Tony Harrington, Charlie Munsey, Corey Rich, and Gene Dwarkin will showcase epic images from across the globe, including skiing, surfing, kayaking, climbing and more. THST was founded by Kipp Nelson and Steve Brown, former University of Colorado alpine racers. Nelson, a trustee of the U.S. Ski Team as well as the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, is putting the fun back in to ski competition by combining two very separate aspects of the sport, halfpipe and ski cross into one event. Watch the Alpine World Champs LIVE!
NEW YORK - Fans of the U.S. Ski Team will be able to watch the upcoming FIS Alpine World Ski Championships as NBCSports.com in conjunction with MediaZone will bring exclusive coverage of the full Championships to the USA including live web streaming daily, plus televised coverage of the men's and women's downhill, airing Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports.
Held every two years, the U.S. Ski Team will be looking to defend multiple World titles as Bode Miller (Bretton Woods, NH) has medaled in the last three World Championships, winning double gold at the 2003 and '05 championships. Also on the podium in '05 was Julia Mancuso (Olympic Valley, CA) who grabbed bronze in both the giant slalom and super G in Bormio. Both men's and women's teams are carrying huge momentum into the worlds as Mancuso and Lindsey Kildow (Vail, CO) each have three victories already this season on the World Cup, while Miller has four wins and currently leads the World Cup SG standings. Ted Ligety (Park City, UT), the Olympic combined champion, has two podium finishes this year and Steven Nyman (Provo, UT) snagged his first victory in a downhill as part of the U.S. Ski Team's historic run that included nine top-3's (five wins) over six days.
"NBC Sports and NBCSports.com is committed to delivering the excitement and passion of Olympic sports on all of our platforms," said Perkins Miller, Senior Vice President, Digital Media, NBC Sports & Olympics. "Through our partnership with the USSA, we can use the Internet to deliver these events to a passionate fan base that otherwise would not be able to watch them." The broadcasts are a partnership with the FIS and European Broadcast Union, along with NBCSports.com, MediaZone and the U.S. Ski Team.
NBC's Olympic broadcast team of Tim Ryan, Todd Brooker and Steve Porino will call the action for NBC's coverage of the men's and women's downhill airing on Feb. 17.
New this year is NBCSports.com's daily live coverage with partner MediaZone. Every race will be webcast live with natural sound, plus will be available on-demand after the competitions.
"Our fans have the chance to really follow the World Championships from start to finish with live coverage from NBC and MediaZone," said U.S. Ski Team Vice President of Marketing Communications Tom Kelly. "The Team has captured a lot of attention this year with great World Cup results across nearly every discipline going into the Championships in Sweden."
Night events and later daytime start times for the Championships in Sweden bring the daily webcasts into very reasonable daytime airtimes in the USA. No finals begin earlier than 6:30 a.m. Eastern Time, and four of the 11-event finals start mid-morning to early-afternoon Eastern Time.
The entire two-week package is only $19.99, providing both live daily coverage and on-demand access to all the World Championship races. Single day coverage is $4.99. Fans can checkout the coverage at www.nbcsports.com or www.mediazone.com.
