Sugarloaf
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine - Sugarloaf/USA will become a coveted destination for new schoolers in the 2006-07 winter season with the introduction of a new marquee terrain park that promises bigger, better and more features than have ever been offered at the Maine resort. The new terrain park is just one of many major projects totaling nearly $1 million completed this summer to improve the overall Sugarloaf experience.

The yet unnamed park was cut from terrain between the SuperQuad and the Lower Narrow Gauge trail and will take freeskiing and riding to unequaled heights. The new trail is up to 400 feet wide and nearly a half a mile long to accommodate a series of jumps, features and rails. “This new park will let us build bigger, better, safer, and more fun features from start to finish,” said Tim Norton, Sugarloaf’s park manager. The new park will be staffed by park rangers seven days a week to ensure the features are in pristine and safe condition.

The park begins at Peavy Cross Cut near the bottom of the Competition Hill trail and runs parallel to the SuperQuad. Skiers will exit on to Schipper’s Streak, the lower hook off Lower Narrow Gauge.

The autumn foliage is a flaming torch lighting the way to winter.” If you haven’t been here lately, let me tell you that the torch is as bright as I’ve ever seen it with miles of fiery gold, red, orange, and yellow across the mountains of western Maine. If there’s truth in the poet’s words, we’re in for one heck of a winter because the fall is spectacular.

Since we’re on the subject of winter, if you haven’t already locked in your All For One Pass, time and quantities are running out. The deadline to get one is Oct. 10 but sales to date are pointing to a sell-out before then and, once they’re gone, that’s it

Treble Cone

School holidays are in full swing at Treble Cone this week. We’ve got heaps of families coming up to enjoy our spring snow conditions so we’re all having fun on the slopes and making the most of the final weeks of the season.
We had some pretty chaotic weather over the past week, with lots of strong winds and even a rather spectacular electrical storm on Saturday night! However, every cloud has a silver lining – or in this case, it was snow-filled – and we’ve had a fresh 10cm at the top of the Saddle Basin in the past 48 hours alone and a further 35cm late last week on the upper mountain.

Next Sunday, October 8th, will be the final day of the 2006 season. But we won’t be going out with a whimper… more like a very soggy bang!
Skiers & boarders will attempt to conquer the dreaded Opal Nera slush pit at the bottom of the Platter slopes. Can you make it across to the other side without landing in the slush? Participate if you’re game, just turn up on the day to enter. And don’t forget to dress to impress as it’s a fancy dress day too!
