BIG SKY, Mont. – Like your ski areas Interconnected in a huge way?

Two Montana ski resorts are pooling resources to form one of North America’s largest interconnected trail networks: Big Sky Resort, the famed Montana ski resort envisioned in the ‘60s by TV news legend Chet Huntley, and Moonlight Basin, which made headlines two years ago when it became the first new destination ski area to open in the U.S. in more than 20 years.

The two resorts share the same mountain – Lone Peak, roughly an hour from Bozeman. The resorts even shared several trails and a lift in the past. But previously, it was necessary to purchase a ticket or season pass from each if you wanted to ski them both.

This year, skiers and snowboarders have the option to purchase tickets and passes allowing unlimited access to both resorts.

The combined pass provides lift access to hundreds of acres of stunning summit snowfields that were previously accessible only by hiking. Combined, the two trail networks offer nearly 5,300 acres (2,145 hectares) of skiable terrain and the second-biggest vertical descent in the US, at 4,350’ (1,326 meters). Between them, the two resorts operate 23 lifts.

Squaw Valley Institute to present:
DORWORTH RETURNS TO SQUAW!
Legendary ski instructor, climber, mountain man and writer, Dick Dorworth, ,
visits to Squaw Valley Institute to present a talk and see old friends. He will read from his essays on the joy of skiing, instinct (especially as it works in the mountains) and hope. He will invite audience participation in discussing these themes.
He taught and coached skiing for many years in the old days of Squaw Valley, has been the men's coach for the U.S. Ski Team, Director of the Aspen Mountain Ski School, and climbing guide for the Yosemite Mountaineering School, Shasta Mountain Guides and Exum Mountain Guides. He has written for many publications including SKI, Skiing, Powder, Snow Country and many others. Today Dorworth skis and climbs from Ketchum, Idaho and reports and writes columns for the Idaho Mountain Express.
This unusual and interesting program is on Wednesday, November 16 at PlumpJack Conference Center in Squaw Valley, CA. The talk starts at 7:00 pm and a fun no-host bar opens at 6:30 pm.
