BAD GASTEIN, Austria (April 12) - Madeline Wiencke (White Bear Lake, MN) rocketed into the parallel giant slalom finals on Day Two of the 2007 FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships, but fell short in the quarterfinal to senior world champion Ekaterina Tudigescheva of Russia. National Championships Part of Snowbird’s April InSpring Festival
Snowbird, Utah – The fourth annual North American Gelande Championships presented by Dynastar and The North Face will take place at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort April 13-15, 2007. The contest features professional and amateur ski jumpers soaring hundreds of feet using alpine and telemark ski equipment.
“Gelande is a fantastic event for both competitors and spectators,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar . “Watching skiers soar over 200 feet is not something you get to see every day.”

Practice begins Friday, April 13, for all competitors. The competition gets under way Saturday, April 14, at 10 a.m. with the pro-seeding round and two rounds of amateur jumping. The final round of the amateur contest and the pro competition take place Sunday, April 15, beginning at 10 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of Sunday’s events. Participants must sign up at the Activity Center on the Snowbird Center Plaza Deck before jumping. Natural hills and specialized jumping hills play host to gelande competitions throughout the winter. Speed skiers, ski instructors, ski patrollers, professional racers and other experienced alpine and telemark skiers make up the ranks of gelande jumpers.
The gelande will be held on the Lower Willows run in Peruvian Gulch, which is visible from the Cliff Lodge, the Alta Bypass Road and trails within Snowbird. Admission is free.
Live music will entertain skiers and riders on the Snowbird Center Plaza Deck every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through April.

BRETTON WOODS, N.H. - Recent late-season snowstorms will have skiing at midwinter quality this weekend at the Mount Washington Resort for the third BodeFest, featuring two days of skiing with Bode Miller, director of skiing at Bretton Woods and the newly (re-) crowned World Cup super G champion. All proceeds again will go to Miller's nonprofit Turtle Ridge Foundation and the Bretton Woods Adaptive Program.

BodeFest 2007, presented by Head USA, begins late Friday with Miller, who tied the U.S. record for most national championships by a man when he won his ninth title March 31 in Alaska, skiing with youngsters participating in the weekend. He will be providing some ski tips in addition to autographs and photo opportunities.

Saturday, four-member teams will compete at Bretton Woods on a modified giant slalom with the better of two runs - one in the morning, one in the afternoon - determining the top teams with a barbecue at BW's main base lodge splitting the day.

In addition, there will be separate Kids' Camp and adult activities. Among the highlights will be Miller reading to younger children and then holding a question and answer sessions with teens. There also will be a silent auction with prizes including autographed memorabilia from Super Bowl hero Tom Brady and a VIP trip to a Boston Bruins game. A live auction will offer prizes including attendance at the World Cup ski races during the Birds of Prey weekend in Beaver Creek, CO, and a Boston Celtics Dream Experience for eight.

"When we started BodeFest three years ago," Miller said, "the goal was to have a great time on the slopes with all of my friends and fans at Bretton Woods. "The event has grown and, with the creation of the Turtle Ridge Foundation in early 2006, so has our ability to make an impact. This year's BodeFest presents us with a tremendous opportunity to raise awareness, support and make contributions to worthy causes that directly benefit people in need and the community at large."

Turtle Ridge Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and creating programs to deal with difficult environmental, health and economic issues. The Bretton Woods Adaptive Program, also a nonprofit, is dedicated to providing sports and recreation to the disabled.

Record Spring Snow?
This year marks the fourth time in the past 20 years that Killington has received 100 or more inches of snow since March 1. During the 2000-01 season, Killington received a record 125 inches of snow after March 1, including a record 316 inches for the season. Now I know we probably won’t eclipse 316 inches, but we’re well on our way to our annual average of 250 as forecasters are calling for another dump on Thursday, some say 6-12 inches! Fat skis anyone?

The Bear awakens
What are we going to do with all this new snow? Ski and ride on it of course as we re-open Bear Mountain for Friday and Saturday. We’ll spin the Bear Mountain Quad along with Stage II of the Skyeship Gondola to get you to 100+ trails, including the 430-foot long Superpipe and additional terrain park features. 2007 Season Pass Prices
Cardrona Season Passes in 2007 have two new developments. Firstly a discounted price for Cardrona 2006 season pass holders who purchase a 2007 early bird season pass by March 15, 2007. Secondly the season pass will provide significant discounts in other ski resorts in Wanaka, Canterbury, Ruapehu, Italy, Argentina and Colorado.
Cardrona season pass prices for those season passes purchased by March 15 are Adult $490, Student $490, Child $110, and 60-74 years $220. Last year’s (2006) season pass holders receive a loyalty discount of $20 for Adults and Students, $5 for Children and $10 for Veterans. The FIS Speed Skiing World Cup 2007 competition promises to be one of the most exciting in recent years. Now half-way through the eight-race-series, due to reach its finale in Cervinia (ITA) on 2nd April, one of the largest fields of racers ever seen is jostling for points.
After two years in which Simone Origone (ITA) has dominated the men’s rankings, the current rankings show him languishing in 3rd place – behind little brother Ivan (ITA) and former World Champion Philippe May (SUI). Just below this trio, there is another pack of four contenders – Roger Wickman (SWE), Marc Poncin (GBR), Michel Goumens (SUI) and Ross Anderson (USA) – waiting for a chance to pounce. Finally, Jukka Viitasaari (FIN) has only competed in one of the WC races to-date, coming a strong 4th. The ladies competition is no less nail-biting. After winning the first two races of the series, the four-time World Cup winner and World Champion, Tracie Max Sachs (USA) has sustained an injury and is slipping down the rankings. Wearing the leader’s jersey is Anna-Karin Modin (SWE), just two points clear with three podium places this year. Sanna Tidstrand (SWE) excited her home-nation crowd by winning in Salen and could quickly close the gap. The Finnish team, including Kati Metsäpelto, Heini and Pia Piipponen, and Hannamiina Tanninen, have yet to make a start.
