Sun Valley Resort will open additional lifts and terrain on Baldy this Friday, December 16, 2005. Additional lifts opening on Baldy will include Greyhawk Lift #7, and Seattle Ridge #12. Exhibition #2 will open in the mornings and Sunnyside #6 will be open in the afternoons. In addition Seattle Ridge Lodge on Seattle Ridge will open for the season. Dollar Mountain and Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge also remains open for the season.

VAL D’ISERE, France (Dec. 17) - Lindsey Kildow (Vail, CO) ignored new snow, gusting winds, shaky conditions and a couple of bobbles Saturday to win her second World Cup downhill with Caroline Lalive (Steamboat Springs, CO) second, the first 1-2 U.S. finish in DH since Picabo Street and Hilary Lindh in 1994.
Officials lowered the start of the race because of the changing visibility and conditions. Kildow, who has won two of the three World Cup DHs this season, led at every checkpoint down the 2K course, won in 1:21.91 and took the World Cup downhill points lead. Lalive was second in 1:22.29, her best result in nearly three years (since finishing second in DH at World Cup Finals in 2002).
Miller 8th, Macartney 11th in Val Gardena DH
VAL GARDENA, Italy (Dec. 17) - Mario Buechel of Liechtenstein won a snowy and foggy World Cup downhill Saturday by two-hundredths of a second over Austrian Michael Walchhofer while Bode Miller (Bretton Woods, NH) reclaimed the World Cup overall points lead, leading three U.S. skiers into the top 20.
Ligety Moves Into 2nd with Top-10
MADONNA di CAMPIGLIO, Italy (Dec. 12) — Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) moved into the second position in World Cup slalom standings Monday, finishing sixth under the lights in Madonna di Campiglio. Ligety was fifth after the first run with Bode Miller (Bretton Woods, NH) sixth. Miller went out at the bottom of the second run. Italian Giorgio Rocca won his second straight slalom.
Daron Rahlves (Sugar Bowl, CA) is the most successful male downhiller in U.S. annals – seven World Cup downhill victories – including earlier this month at the VISA Birds of Prey race in Beaver Creek, Colo., and three super G wins. He also has three World Championships medals and in February Rahlves hopes to add at least one Olympic medal to his trophy case.
