Early snowfall has blanketed ski areas in Victoria, Australia, a welcome prelude to the 2006 ski season, still officially some months off. At the resort of Mt Buller, Easter weekend snowfalls blanketing upper regions of the mountain with up to 10cm of snow. The Easter bunny was there to help out with a giant egg hunt. Snow also fell at Victoria's other major ski spots at Falls Creek and Mt Baw Baw.
At Mt Hotham, Victoria's highest resort, up to nine centimetres (four inches) had already fallen at the across the resort prior to the additional Easter snow. The season there officially opens on June 10.

Iceland Park Project Ready For Fifth Year Nikita Iceland
Park Project with more snowfall recorded than last year. Although the early booking discount period has passed a few places remained on each of the four weeks at time of going to press. The first week runs from 13th to 20th May, and then further weeks ruin successively through to the final from one from 3rd to the 10th of June. Well its back for another year, the Nikita Iceland Park Project is going to be bigger and better than ever. Now in our fifth year and after the success of last year we are becoming recognised as one of the world’s best summer snow parks with the added bonus of being able to go surfing after riding the park. This year we have our longest ever camp, a host of massive new rails for the snow park, the skate mini-ramp already built and more wetsuits and boards available to all free of charge to make the surf session as much fun as the snowboarding. Race for 2014 Olympic Winter Games
Now that Torino 2006 has been written into the Olympic history books and the Olympic Torch handed over to Vancouver for 2010, focus turns to the bids for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. According to the current procedure, the process leading to the election of the host city for the Olympic Winter Games consists of two phases: Phase 1 for Applicant Cities and Phase 2 for Candidate Cities.
Since the IOC launched the 2014 bid process in May 2005, seven cities have applied for the XXII Olympic Winter Games. These seven cities are: Almaty (KAZ), Borjomi (GEO), Jaca (SPA), PyeongChang (KOR), Salzburg (AUT), Sochi (RUS), and Sofia (BUL). All the Applicant Cities submitted their replies to a questionnaire prepared by the IOC by 1st February, 2006. The cities’ dossiers are currently being studied by a panel of technical experts tasked to help draft a shortlist of the candidates. This analysis is focused on several areas, including the potential of the cities and their countries to host the Olympics, the motivation of the bid, and the applicant’s vision for the 2014 Games. The decision on which cities will become Candidate Cities will be taken by the IOC Executive Board at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, on 22nd June 2006. There are expected to be 3-4 Candidate Cities. The Candidate Cities will then be asked submit their Candidature Files to the IOC by January 10, 2007.
