High Wycombe Snowdome Moves Forward

The High Wycombe Snowdome proposal on the site of the former artificial surface ski centre in southern England, largely destroyed by fire two years ago, have been given the green light by local councillors. Members of Wycombe District Council's Development Control Committee have voted unanimously to pass the application put forward by the owners of Wycombe Summit, Snowdome Ltd, who also own the existing indoor snow centre at Tamworth and the UK copyright for the name ‘snowdome.’

The company wants to build a new ice rink, reception area, function rooms and viewing gallery along with a newly enclosed 100 metre training and nursery slope. There will be a new four-story club house will also be constructed as part of the plans to replace the original building on the site.

Martin Smith, managing director of Staffordshire-based Snowdome, said he was delighted with the decision.

"It's been four years since we acquired the site, two years since the lodge burnt down and finally our application has progressed substantially," he said.

2008 Openings

North America’s long awaited first indoor snow centre at Meadowlands in New Jersey, Xanadu, is likely to be the most talked about new snow centre this year. The controversial and long delayed project currently aims to open ‘late’ in 2008, much of the indoor snow centre building is already complete.

Elsewhere another project delayed several years from the original date, the indoor snow centre at Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi, looks set to open in the first half of 2008.

Moscow’s first snow centre, like Xanadu already mostly complete and having already been supposed to open on various dates in 2007, should certainly open this year.

In the UK, the Bluestone Holiday Village in Wales, which plans to begin work on Phase 2 including an indoor snow centre next year, will open this summer. Work on two new snow centres at Hemel Hempstead and High Wycombe should start this year and a decision on whether the country’s largest and most southerly slope so far proposed, Snoasis, from a Public Enquiry launched a year ago, should be published any day.

Kvitfjell- Norway
Kvitfjell
Kvitfjell is not the largest ski destination in the world, but many people declare that it is one of the best. The reason is probably the variation of the slopes skiers will find here. For the youngest as well as for beginners we have small bunny hills and for the more advanced skiers we can offer steeper slopes where the skies really catches wind. Skiers at all levels will find their own challenge in Kvitfjell that is why so many ski enthusiasts return to our destination.
Quality is our motto. Everything that has been and is being build here in Kvitfjell is of the highest quality, and that includes the destination as a whole. More than NOK 200 millions has been invested into different projects, which results in that Kvitfjell is one of the most modern state-of-the-arch destinations in Norway. Kvitfjell is able to cover approximately 80% of all slopes with artificial snow and due to this we are one of the first destinations to open every year. Number of lifts: 7
Lift capacity: 8100 p/h
Longest run: 3500 m
Vertical drop: 840 m
Highest mountain: 1044m

There are many reasons why you should visit us in Kvitfjell this winter. From Kvitfjell you have access to more than 600 km of cross-country trails, a snowboard/terrain park, great ski instructors who will teach you to enjoy skiing, one of Norway’s most luxurious hotels in the mountains, etc. Kvitfjell

The Argentina Snow was promoted in Madrid With positive balance, concluded a new edition of the Fair the International of Tourism of Madrid (Spain), one of most important of the heading. And as it could not be of another way, the Argentine centers of ski were one of the attractions in stand of Argentina. Data on the snow of our country, times and tariffs and characteristics of each one of the centers, were some of the repeated consultations more in the writing-desk of the Camera of Centers of Ski, in where hill Cathedral and hill Beaver was like representatives. The lack of snow in the North hemisphere and the quality of the national ski resorts is the main attractions by as the European public travels until the south of America to practice the white sports. In this edition, Fitur has returned to surpass the record of attendance and participation, as it comes happening year after year, competing Madrid with being the first fair of the tourism in importance, in front of Berlin and London. The 250,000 visitors have surpassed themselves, of whom more than 150,000 they have been professional, counting on a representation of almost 8,000 journalists who have covered the thousands and acts that have been carried out during the five days that the fair has lasted. During the exhibition, Diego Maradona visited stand of Argentina where he talked with the Secretary of Tourism of the Nation, Enrique Meyer and the Executive Director of the National Institute of Tourist Promotion, Miguel Cuberos Angel, to those who he expressed: "I am happy for being here and of which the Argentine tourism continues growing". On the other hand, stand Argentine received a distinction by the innovation, the design and modernity corresponding to the category "Countries". The IFEMA authorities, in charge of the organization of the Fair, granted this distinction after evaluating stands of more than 170 nations. During five days, 30 of January to the 3 of February, 170 countries, 879 exhibitors and 13,300 companies, of them 5,852 foreigners and 7,448 nationals, exposed their products and participated in seminaries, encounter and presentation of the possibilities that their destinies offer for the leisure, the adventure and the familiar rest.
