Snowbird Opens Friday with Gad Valley Terrain Gadzoom, Mid-Gad Lifts will Turn to Begin Resort’s Winter Season

Snowbird, Utah – The 2007-08 winter season at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort begins Friday, Nov. 30, with skiing and riding on natural and man-made snow in Gad Valley. Snowbird will open at 9 a.m. with the Gadzoom and Mid-Gad chairlifts accessing intermediate and advanced terrain.

“A 9-inch storm like the one that came through Tuesday is important to help build a base early in the season,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. “As the snow continues to fall and we head into December we’ll open additional lifts and runs as conditions allow.”

Tuesday’s storm blanketed Snowbird with 9 inches of snow and 52 inches have fallen on the Little Cottonwood Canyon resort since October. Snowcats have been grooming the mountain and the recent cold weather has allowed the resort to make snow.

Snowbird will offer skiing and riding on natural and man-made snow on the Middle Bassackwards and Big Emma runs serviced by the Gadzoom and Mid-Gad chairlifts. The early-season skiing and riding is not for beginners. Only intermediate and advanced terrain is available.

The lift ticket price will be $46 for adults and $23 for kids 7-12. Kids 6 and under ski free at Snowbird. Lift hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Take Little Cottonwood Canyon to Snowbird Entry 1 to access Snowbird’s early-season skiing from the Gad Valley parking lot.

Creekside Lodge, at the base of Gad Valley, will be open with food and beverage service, equipment rentals, retail and ticket operations. Snowbird’s mid-mountain lodge, Mid-Gad, will be open with limited service.

The Tram will be open for scenic foot passenger rides from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1-2. A foot passenger Tram ticket is $12. Lift tickets and season passes will be honored on the Tram but there will be no skiing or riding from the Tram.

Sugarloaf
Join the fight against cancer and be a part of Sugarloaf lore

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine ¾ Light the night sky and join the fight against cancer in the fourth annual Carry the Torch for the Cure Torchlight Parade. In this truly unique event, skiers and riders take to the slopes after dark and lead in the night’s holiday fireworks celebration.

This year’s event is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 28, 2008 to coincide with the festivities of the Christmas holiday week. A vibrant fireworks display will commence as soon as the torch bearers reach the base area. A special family comedy night event featuring Maine humorist Tim Sample and the Maine Hysterical Society will follow in the King Pine Room of the Base Lodge.

The Carry the Torch for the Cure Torchlight Parade offers Sugarloafers the chance to ski or ride in one of resort’s cherished torchlight parades to ring in the holiday celebration in front of thousands of fans.

Torchlight parades are a Sugarloaf tradition that are usually reserved for Ski Patrol and Perfect Turn coaches. Over the years numerous guests have asked they could be a part of one. Four years ago, Sugarloaf opened this one-time event to the skiing public in exchange for participation in the Sugarloaf Charity Summit. Since its inception in 2004, the Carry the Torch for the Cure Torchlight Parade has attracted hundreds of Sugarloafers who delight in the completely new perspective they get of their favorite mountain.

The Carry the Torch for the Cure is open to all skiers and riders who are at least 18 years old, are comfortable negotiating black diamond terrain in all conditions and make a minimum contribution of $60 to the Martha B. Webber Breast Cancer Center . In addition to a winter experience of a lifetime, all participants will receive a commemorative special edition Sugarloaf Charity Summit garment. All proceeds will benefit the Webber Center , which provides breast cancer screening and treatment for women in western Maine .

Kimberley
Kimberley Alpine Resort, scheduled to open December 16th, 2006.
Summer Glading – Kimberley Alpine Resort strives to provide the most consistent snow surface. Work done in the summer makes for velvety smooth groomers and challenging bump runs in the winter. During the summer, 15 runs on the Easter (North Bowl) side of the resort will get attention as crews clean up in the trees and on the runs. (Notre Dame, Full House, Tramway, Geneva, Dean Left & Right, Twixt, Comet, Magma, Jackpot, Twist, Maverick, Flush, Fuzzy & Flapper). As well, the front side of the mountain will see significant work performed as Rosa, Buckhorn, Mambo, Utopia, Stemwinder and Twilight have all seen brush crews. Also check around the mountain for some new unnamed glades. After all, we can’t tell you everything! Front side work will please skiers and riders who love glades – look for 7-metre spacing throughout the entire front side of the mountain

NEW Trails – For those who want to explore a little before you reach the base area, or for those staying on the mountain, the North Star Trail will take you from below the skier bridge amongst a tree lined, low angle trail to your destination in the Resort plaza. Moe’s Trail – A new intermediate trail to the skiers’ right of Boundary Run. Nate’s Way – A new access trail from the Top of the Tamarack Chair to the Stemwinder Run.
