Watch the Alpine World Champs LIVE!
NEW YORK (Feb. 1) - Fans of the U.S. Ski Team will be able to watch the upcoming FIS Alpine World Ski Championships as NBCSports.com in conjunction with MediaZone will bring exclusive coverage of the full Championships to the USA including live web streaming daily, plus televised coverage of the men's and women's downhill, airing Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports.
Held every two years, the U.S. Ski Team will be looking to defend multiple World titles as Bode Miller (Bretton Woods, NH) has medaled in the last three World Championships, winning double gold at the 2003 and '05 championships. Also on the podium in '05 was Julia Mancuso (Olympic Valley, CA) who grabbed bronze in both the giant slalom and super G in Bormio. Both men's and women's teams are carrying huge momentum into the worlds as Mancuso and Lindsey Kildow (Vail, CO) each have three victories already this season on the World Cup, while Miller has four wins and currently leads the World Cup SG standings. Ted Ligety (Park City, UT), the Olympic combined champion, has two podium finishes this year and Steven Nyman (Provo, UT) snagged his first victory in a downhill as part of the U.S. Ski Team's historic run that included nine top-3's (five wins) over six days.
"NBC Sports and NBCSports.com is committed to delivering the excitement and passion of Olympic sports on all of our platforms," said Perkins Miller, Senior Vice President, Digital Media, NBC Sports & Olympics. "Through our partnership with the USSA, we can use the Internet to deliver these events to a passionate fan base that otherwise would not be able to watch them." The broadcasts are a partnership with the FIS and European Broadcast Union, along with NBCSports.com, MediaZone and the U.S. Ski Team.
NBC's Olympic broadcast team of Tim Ryan, Todd Brooker and Steve Porino will call the action for NBC's coverage of the men's and women's downhill airing on Feb. 17.
New this year is NBCSports.com's daily live coverage with partner MediaZone. Every race will be webcast live with natural sound, plus will be available on-demand after the competitions.
"Our fans have the chance to really follow the World Championships from start to finish with live coverage from NBC and MediaZone," said U.S. Ski Team Vice President of Marketing Communications Tom Kelly. "The Team has captured a lot of attention this year with great World Cup results across nearly every discipline going into the Championships in Sweden."
Night events and later daytime start times for the Championships in Sweden bring the daily webcasts into very reasonable daytime airtimes in the USA. No finals begin earlier than 6:30 a.m. Eastern Time, and four of the 11-event finals start mid-morning to early-afternoon Eastern Time.
The entire two-week package is only $19.99, providing both live daily coverage and on-demand access to all the World Championship races. Single day coverage is $4.99. Fans can checkout the coverage at www.nbcsports.com or www.mediazone.com.

*** Mad River Glen
A fresh 1"-4"of fluff overnight which will certainly freshen up the skiing today. Yup, 1"-4" is not a misprint. Oddly we have about an inch at the base, about 4" at mid-station and back down to 2-3" up on top, very weird but we'll take it however it comes! While there might not be much snow where you are we have had more snow in the past 3 weeks than they have had in Utah. The forecast for the upcoming weekend is looking REALLY good though. MRG's weather guru, Josh Fox is predicting several hits of snow from Friday through Sunday which he reckons will dump in the neighborhood of 10". Lets all hope he nails this forecast! Looks like the conditions for this weekend's Junior Mogul Challenge will be stellar. The skiing at Mad River Glen is pretty decent right now and improving with every flake. Hopefully things will get even better. This weekend we will operate all lifts and all trails with 100% of our legendary terrain wide open. While your here be sure to learn more about the campaign to Save the Fabled Single Chair
The Mad River Glen Junior Mogul Challenge is set forSaturday February 3rd. Mad River Glen will be selecting its Sports Illustrated for Kids NextSnow Team based on the results of the Challenge along with their written response to an essay question. The essay must be handed in by Friday February 9th. The first place finisher will receive a paid trip (along with a parent) to Sports Illustrated for Kids Next Snow Search at Killington on March 2-4, 2007. The NextSnow Search is the first all-mountain, all equipment, all kids snow sports championship. It’s not just a competition; style, attitude, and personality are also factors. The essay question is; why would you be a great representative of Mad River Glen at the NextSnow Competition?Competitors must register the day of the event on the 3rd floor of Mad River ’s Basebox Lodge from 8 until 9:00 a.m. The competition begins at 11:00 a.m. The awards ceremony will be held on the 3rd floor of the Basebox at 4:15 p.m. For more information call (802) 496 3551

Single Chair
When the historic restoration of the Single Chair begins in the spring of 2007 skiers will have a unique opportunity to purchase the old chairs and acquire a link to skiing history. The sale of the chairs is an important component of the financing of the project. There will be three ways to obtain a chair. One hundred and forty will be auctioned off to the Co-op shareholders. Five chairs will be raffled off and an additional three will be offered in a special essay contest. The raffle and the essay contest will be open to the public. If there are any chairs remaining they will be auctioned off to the highest bidder

Sugarloaf/USA’s new terrain park, ‘The Yard’, opens Saturday, Feb. 3
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine - After countless hours of snowmaking, days of pushing snow, and cases of energy drinks, it’s time for freeriders to rejoice. With jumps spanning 50 feet or more and mind bending rails and jibs, Sugarloaf/USA is poised to leap into the forefront of freestyle terrain with the opening of The Yard terrain park on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Grand Opening of The Yard and award presentation to the winner of the Name The Park Contest is Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the entrance to the park at Peavey Cross Cut. The winning name was selected from more than 2,000 entries that were submitted from October through December. Josh Tauses of Kingfield submitted the winning entry and will recieve a Sugarloaf season’s pass and have ultimate bragging rights as the one to name the park. Other finalists will receive Sugarloaf prize packs that include logo wear and lift tickets for future visits to the resort.
“We had a flurry of entries that came in while we evaluating earlier entries,” said Bill Swain, Sugarloaf’s communications manager. “When we saw that those entries were submitted within the scope of the contest, we included them in the review and added several additional finalists including The Yard. The Yard stays true to the Sugarloaf’s heritage for naming trails after logging terms and was the favorite among the judges.” Tauses will be presented with his own trail sign and will drop the rope for the first time to take the inaugural run through The Yard.
Once complete, The Yard will include at least 3 sets of jumps and up to a dozen other features including a changing selection of rails, boxes and other jibs.
